“Freediving is a competition against oneself, with its greatest appeal lying in the experience of self-transcendence through challenging oneself and merging with nature,” said Wang Aolin, Deputy Chief Referee of the event. In recent years, Chinese freediving athletes have achieved remarkable results in international competitions. This event’s location in Xuyi was chosen precisely due to the area’s superior venue conditions,” Wang added.

The depth limit for this event was set at 40 meters, while the maximum depth at Xiangshan National Mine (Geological) Park is 51 meters. The water quality is classified as Class I, with visibility exceeding 15 meters, making it an ideal venue for a freediving depth competition.

In recent years, Xuyi has carefully developed public sports facilities, including sports parks and fitness trails, and has successfully hosted various events such as the Yangtze River Delta Orienteering Tour and the Grand Canal Cycling Series.

This summer, the vibrant “Kie Street,” a themed street combining cultural creativity, leisure tourism, and nighttime economy, officially opened, adding more flavor to Xuyi’s cultural and tourism industry.

Looking ahead, Xuyi County plans to center its development around the poetic landscapes of Xiangshan National Mine (Geological) Park, integrating nearby cultural and tourism resources to build a water sports town that combines culture, sports, and tourism. Through the dual promotion of events and tourism, Xuyi aims to become the top choice for cultural and tourism destinations.
