The Twin Cities Hair & Beauty Expo: A Celebration of Black Beauty, Culture, and Empowerment

The 6th Annual Twin Cities Hair & Beauty Expo is returning on Sunday, August 11, 2024, at the Marriott Minneapolis Northwest. This year’s theme, “Black to the Future,” celebrates Black beauty, culture, and empowerment while integrating technology and honoring Black Business Month.

Brooklyn Park, MN – The Twin Cities Hair & Beauty Expo, the largest event of its kind in the Upper Midwest, is set to return on Sunday, August 11, 2024, at the Marriott Minneapolis Northwest. This year’s theme, “Black to the Future,” focuses on advancing technology while celebrating the rich heritage and vibrant future of the Black community. Get ready to explore, empower, and maybe even experience a good hair day or two!

Highlighting Critical Issues and Empowering Communities

This year’s Expo isn’t just about looking good — though that’s certainly on the agenda. The Expo proudly welcomes Kaleena Burkes as the keynote speaker, who will spotlight the critical issue of Missing and Murdered Black Girls. Minnesota is the first state to establish a dedicated task force for this issue, and the Director of this task force will provide invaluable insights and updates. Spoiler alert: this session is going to be as eye-opening as it is essential.

Engaging and Enlightening Sessions

We’ve got sessions so packed with knowledge, you’ll need a bigger brain to fit it all. Here are some highlights:

  • Healing and Self-Love Panels: Let’s face it, who doesn’t need a little healing and self-love? The Men’s Panel, titled “How I Healed the Boy Within: The Things That Change Boys to Men,” features figures such as Carl Gilliard from BET’s Family Business, Emmanuel Donaby, Ernest Howard, Sylvester J. Carver, and others. This panel is where deep thoughts meet deep voices, and growth happens — whether you want it to or not.

  • A Relationship with Loving Thyself-Self Love: Think of this as a spa day for your soul. Panelists Brittney Kline, Alysha Price, and Alex Merritt will share their experiences and advice on nurturing self-love in today’s world. It’s the perfect place to learn why loving yourself is the ultimate beauty secret.

  • Financial Literacy Workshops: Let’s get real — hair extensions might be a great investment, but understanding your finances is crucial too. Hosted by local Financial Coach Solange Kolie and Market Trading with Tim Campbell’s Advance The Kingdom, these workshops will offer practical advice on achieving financial stability and growth, and maybe, just maybe, a little less stress when you check your bank account.

Celebrity Appearances and Special Guests

What’s an Expo without a little star power? We’re thrilled to host renowned actress and comedian Cocoa Brown, known for her roles in Tyler Perry films, and actor Carl Gilliard from BET’s “Family Business.” And just when you thought it couldn’t get any better, Cocoa Brown and LaTonya Gilliard will be hosting a special live broadcast of The Aunties Podcast. Expect wisdom, humor, and maybe a few secrets shared—because who doesn’t love some good Auntie advice?

Technological Advancements and Celebrating Black Business Month

Embracing this year’s theme, “Black to the Future,” we’re mixing tradition with tech. Attendees will have access to a dedicated app providing real-time updates on event schedules and activities. No more missing out on that must-see panel because you lost track of time while shopping for edge control.

And because it’s Black Business Month, we’re rolling out the red carpet for Black business owners to showcase their brands, network, and connect with potential customers. Consider it a shopping spree with a side of empowerment.

Sponsors

This year’s Expo is proudly sponsored by Gloria Freeman, House of Beaute Atout, Old National Bank, Regina Biggs of Virtuous Hands MediSpa, Positive Image Minneapolis, Bremer Bank, Nature’s Syrup, Cultural Kare Magazine, Gorgeous Looks Salon, MADALI Hair, Solange Kolie of Freedom Empire, HBW Hair Extensions, Flame Mobile, and other community partners. We’re incredibly grateful for their support—without them, this event would be like trying to do a twist-out without leave-in conditioner.
