The stories reassure us that we can transform any difficulty into our own personal gold.
What inspired you to write Fill Your Glass With Gold – When It’s Half-Full or Even Completely Shattered?
Fill Your Glass With Gold was inspired by a workshop I developed called, “Your Path to Progress.” It was designed to give people hope and inspire them to take responsibility for their lives and choices. I wanted to show people they could be victorious overcomers, not victims, and develop the skills and mindset to respond to challenges in more positive, empowering ways. This book provides readers with practical tools and strategies to do so.
How did you feel when you found out that you had received a Book Excellence Award?
I was delighted to learn that I was a Finalist! Being an honoree is always a positive experience and I am grateful to have my hard work rewarded and recognized.
How did your background and experience influence your writing?
My story, which I detail in the book, is a living testament to developing resilience and emerging stronger after navigating life’s turbulent waters.
When I was seven, my mother passed away and my father remarried, creating a blended family with issues. Suffice to say, my family took the word ‘fun’ out of dysfunctional.
My first two marriages ended in divorce and led me to briefly go on welfare. As a single parent of three children, I spent many years in high-stress, low-paying jobs. I made extra money by becoming a birthday party clown and performing singing telegrams.
However, out of great difficulty comes great opportunity. I believe that whatever you have gone through or are going through now – no matter how difficult it seems – will be useful for you in the future. There are countless examples of leaders, politicians, celebrities, athletes etc. that have turned their adversity into their advantage by gathering new skill sets for a different or better career.
Having worked in the social services field for over two decades, I have helped clients who have suffered from various adverse circumstances such as addiction, domestic violence and homelessness. One of my specialties is that of a job developer where I explore a clients’ transferable skills and use these skills to assist them in finding new employment.
My background has uniquely equipped me to understand the emotional nuances of overcoming obstacles and undergoing career changes, so I can help others see their journeys as transformative experiences instead of painful ones, and live a more joyful, fulfilling life.
What is one message you would like readers to remember?
My mission is simple: to guide you towards a life that’s not just successful, but also emotionally fulfilling. Overcoming adversity requires resilience, determination, and a willingness to adapt. Transferable skills can play a crucial role in helping you achieve your goals, whatever you decide to do. That’s why my books provide you with important lessons and teaching tools that can be tailored to your unique needs and circumstances.
Ultimately, it is important to remember that whatever challenge or obstacle you have experienced or are experiencing now, you have been blessed with new skills you can use to change your life and the lives of those around you for the better. My hope is that through my work, I can help you harness your inner strength, find happiness and unlock your true potential. Your struggles are not obstacles; they are stepping stones towards a brighter future.
