Ten years ago (longer/shorter for some), social media marketing revolutionized the way that businesses of all sizes reached customers. The days of blindly advertising to the masses, suddenly disappeared. And while social media marketing is still the most effective tool that businesses have, Adam Salviani of Crimson Marketing and Consulting has a word of advice for business owners.
“You need a balanced approach to your marketing strategy… don’t be so quick to completely dedicate all of your advertising dollars to one platform or industry.”In the past ten years the cost of “traditional” marketing platforms has decreased dramatically, which is welcome news to some businesses.
“Social media marketing and an online presence is essential for any business that wants to be successful… however it’s a common mistake for businesses to over invest in ads on those platforms. Depending on the business, for some clients we recommend as low as 25% of their budget be invested in social media, with 75% being a maximum recommendation.”
Traditional marketing platforms are struggling to keep up with the popularity of social media advertising. This competition, by necessity, is creating an environment that small businesses can take advantage of. And of course, traditional media doesn’t mean a traditional delivery of ads and messages.
“Our clients have seen great success through TV ads sold by streaming services to local audiences. Online ads through local newspapers are also a great value right now,” Salviani states.
While the immediate gratification and simple interface of Facebook and others is undeniably appealing, small business owners often end up paying more per customer when over relying on social media advertising. Crimson and other marketing agencies are advocating for a more balanced approach towards the biggest issue that most businesses face.
