DUBLIN – 6 January, 2025 – The International Cricket Council (ICC) has granted formal approval for the European T20 Premier League (ETPL), an innovative annual T20 franchise cricket tournament. The inaugural edition will take place from 15 July to 3 August 2025.
The ETPL stands out as a collaborative effort between the cricket boards of Ireland, Scotland, and the Netherlands, creating a distinctive European cricket experience. It will feature a mix of homegrown players from the three nations and elite talent from across the globe.
To manage the tournament’s development, an interim working group has been established, including representatives from the participating boards and strategic partner Rules Sport Tech. This group will oversee key areas such as franchise ownership, broadcasting rights, and player draft processes.
Warren Deutrom, Chair of the interim working group, stated:
“We are delighted to confirm the ICC sanction of the ETPL. This milestone marks the beginning of an exciting journey for cricket in Europe, showcasing top-tier talent and elevating the game’s profile in the region. We are eager to unveil franchise details and the player draft at our upcoming formal launch event.”
During this initial phase, Cricket Ireland will lead public communications. A dedicated webpage has been launched at www.etplofficial.com to provide updates on the tournament’s progress.
