“My Constitution My Country: The History of Domestic Terrorism 1990s – 2016” by Scott Metzger has been released worldwide. This 439-page book covers cases of domestic terrorism in the United States over the last several decades, including major events that captured public attention and lesser-known (but no less devastating) attacks that have been largely forgotten by history. Beyond the events themselves, the book also examines the investigations and agencies that pursued justice in the wake of these horrific actions, as well as the organizations, mindsets, and societal factors that lead people to commit these crimes.
A career video journalist, Metzger began covering and studying domestic terrorism after the 1995 Oklahoma City bombing, and brings his reporting acumen to the detailed history presented throughout the book. Through the details of each domestic terror attack, Metzger crystalizes the brutality of such actions, and the resulting analysis of the perpetrators – as well as the investigative process – provides insight into how terror attacks may be prevented in the future.
Each section of the book shows how far people are willing to go for their ideology and the monumental effort it takes to solve these cases. Understanding the history and cultural climate that leads to acts of terror is a key component of stopping them from happening, and Metzger encourages a nuanced perspective that evolves alongside changes in society.
With diligent research, references to resources for further learning, and a comprehensive overview of the diverse and complex nature of domestic terrorism, the author brings this broad and disturbing topic into focus. Through this fascinating work, readers will gain a deeper knowledge of how domestic terror continues to shape the nation, and gain wisdom about recognizing the nefarious tactics, troubling messages, and risk factors that may be present in their own lives.
My Constitution My Country (ISBN: 9781962987028) can be purchased through retailers worldwide, including Barnes and Noble and Amazon. The hardcover retails for $22.99, paperback retails for $15.99, and the ebook retails for $2.99. Review copies and interviews are available upon request.
From the back cover:
By knowing the past, we can hope to avoid repeating it.
The United States of America has a long and bloody history of terrorist attacks and shootings. But why do these events happen? What compels people to attempt violent atrocities to cause the most destruction and loss of life possible?
Whether it’s 9/11, the Oklahoma City Bombing, Pulse Night Club, the attack on the church in Charleston, South Carolina, and more, author Scott Metzger looks beyond the headlines to find the root of terror cases that have left an indelible mark on history… and are continuing to influence us in the present.
At times we see terrorism as something that happens in other countries and not in the USA, but from the 1990s to today, the presence of terrorism has never waned in our national consciousness. We can understand more about what happened by breaking down the mindset, tactics, plots, and planning of various militant factions, foreign and domestic. What’s always surprising is how far some will go to carry out their plans, requiring an even greater force to stop them.
While the need to fight terrorism has always stayed the same, terrorism continues to evolve to this day, growing ever more sophisticated and deadly.
Let Scott Metzger give you his unique insights on this notoriously disturbing human phenomena.
About the author:
Scott Metzger has been studying, researching, and covering terrorism since the age of fifteen when the Oklahoma City bombing happened on April 19th, 1995. Fascinated by the reasons why an attack like this would happen, he delved into the mysteries and methods of terrorist attacks around the world. This included terror groups, terrorist attacks, recruiting, and propaganda. Of particular interest was the psychology of a terrorist, someone for whom carnage was a way of life. This interest led to a career as a video journalist spanning twenty years.
