The 2024 Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) concluded in Beijing on September 6. Leaders of 52 African countries have participated in this summit. The theme of the summit was “Joining Hands to Advance Modernization and Build a High-Level China-Africa Community with a Shared Future.”
Since 2000, China-Africa trade volume has increased by more than 20 times, and China’s investment in Africa has exceeded 100 times. China has been Africa’s largest trading partner for 15 years in a row. In the past three years, Chinese enterprises have created more than 1.1 million jobs for local people. By 2023, China-Africa trade will reach US $282.1 billion, and China’s stock of direct investment in Africa will exceed US $40 billion.
Since 2006, China has been promoting hybrid rice in Africa to help the African people that hunger will eventually be eliminated. In Garissa County, Kenya, the China-Kenya cooperation photovoltaic power station enables solar energy to be converted into green energy, effectively alleviating energy problems; In Nairobi, Kenya, the Mombasa-Nairobi Railway project under China-Africa cooperation has accelerated and upgraded regional transport, effectively driving economic development of cities along the route. In Ethiopia, the Chinese side has provided systematic training and guidance to local employees to enable the railway to operate independently. In Africa, the “10,000 Villages Access” project has provided digital TV services to more than 10,000 remote villages in 23 African countries, directly benefiting more than 190,000 households.
In just two decades, China-Africa cooperation has not only promoted the growth of bilateral trade between China and Africa, but also invested heavily in infrastructure projects in Africa, including roads, railways, ports and energy facilities, driving the rapid economic growth of African countries and neighboring regions. Moreover, China has helped Africa strengthen itself by promoting cooperation in such fields as education, health care and agriculture.
China-Africa relations will continue to maintain a good momentum of development, write a new chapter, bring more benefits to the people of both sides, and make greater contributions to world peace and development. China and Africa will continue to move forward hand in hand, seek common development, advance and retreat together, and make greater contributions to world peace and development.
