What inspired you to write Money Confident Girls: A Parents Roadmap to Raising Financially Confident Children (From Toddlers to Teens)?
This was a result of several interconnected experiences and realizations.
Initially, it was through the creation of my podcast, Women on Wealth. Through insightful conversations with successful women from diverse fields outside of finance, I discovered profound insights into how financial decisions and behaviors are deeply ingrained in one’s upbringing and early experiences. These stories inspired me to explore further avenues for instilling healthy financial habits in children. In addition, as a parent raising two young girls, I became keenly aware of the importance of imparting financial education and independence to them. Despite my husband and I each having over two decades of experience in finance, we encountered challenges in this aspect, highlighting the likelihood that many other parents were facing similar issues.
Recognizing the collective responsibility of parents and family circles to empower young girls with financial literacy, I aim to provide them with practical tools and thoughtful insights from other successful parents. My desired result is to equip them with the skills necessary for financial success and confidence.
How did your background and experience influence your writing?
My journey into finance stemmed from my own early emotions with money, which instilled in me a deep desire for greater control over my financial well-being.
As I advanced in my career, I realized the importance of promoting financial literacy, particularly among women. This focus intensified when I became a parent to two daughters, recognizing the crucial role it plays in their future financial independence.
What is one message you would like readers to remember?
Empowering girls with financial confidence doesn’t mean parents need to be financial experts; it’s all about staying tuned in and actively engaging with them.
