Barcelona – October 31, 2024 – Xtraordinary People, an organization dedicated to providing specialized care and support for neurodivergent individuals, has officially opened its first center in Mexico, marking a milestone in specialized neurodiversity care within the country. Located at Leibnitz 185, Anzures, Miguel Hidalgo, 11590 Mexico City, CDMX (contact: anzures@xtraordinarypeople.io), the center is designed to provide a cutting-edge therapeutic and educational approach, backed by over 15 years of international experience. It utilizes a comprehensive intervention model combining neuroscience, advanced technology, and a person-centered educational focus to support conditions such as Autism Spectrum Disorders, ADHD, dyslexia, and Tourette syndrome. This revolutionary treatment model is also set to be implemented in the United States in the near future, where it stands to benefit the estimated 15 to 20 percent of people with brains that develop or function differently. Neurodivergent individuals should be accepted and celebrated, yet they are often misunderstood and even excluded from society and the workplace.
In the United States, an estimated 20% of the population is neurodivergent, according to the World Health Organization (WHO), meaning approximately 66 million people who may face unique challenges in their daily lives, from educational barriers to workplace exclusions. Xtraordinary People aims to address these challenges with an innovative approach that integrates neuroscience and personalized support to foster acceptance, inclusion, and practical solutions for neurodivergent individuals.
Eduardo Barragán, former head of the Pediatric Neurology Department at the Hospital Infantil de México Federico Gómez, emphasizes the importance of early diagnosis and precise intervention. “The Xtraordinary method integrates both the biological and emotional and social aspects of each individual,” says Barragán. With advanced technology, such as high-precision MRI and brain mapping, the center excels in monitoring treatment progress. According to Barragán, the Xtraordinary methodology aims to transform the patient’s environment, offering continuous support to both families and schools.
Adrián Trejo de la Rosa, CEO and co-founder of Xtraordinary People, highlighted the organization’s vision to extend beyond clinical intervention and positively impact each person’s family, school, and work environment. “In the United States, where we see a significant need for specialized support, our model provides an essential framework for helping neurodivergent individuals thrive in their communities,” said Trejo. By focusing on personalized, science-based care, Xtraordinary People anticipates creating a transformative effect across multiple sectors, from education to employment.
A comprehensive model for sustainable inclusion
In addition to addressing ADHD and dyslexia, two conditions affecting millions in the U.S., the Xtraordinary People model is designed to adapt to various neurodivergent needs, helping individuals reach their potential through tailored, empathetic interventions. This inclusive model emphasizes the need for structured support within families, schools, and workplaces, offering families and communities the tools to foster understanding and empowerment.
Gerardo Gaya, president of the Foundation Illuminate for Autism, highlighted the significance of this initiative: “Projects like Xtraordinary People are essential for a more inclusive society. For years, families have had limited options for specialized care, and this center’s arrival marks a crucial shift,” said Gaya.
Neus Marí, therapeutic and educational director of Xtraordinary People, emphasized the innovative nature of the center’s bio-psycho-social and relational approach. “Our model considers not only biological and cognitive aspects but also emotional and social interactions. The well-being of a neurodivergent person largely depends on their environment, so we work with families, schools, and communities to ensure comprehensive support,” Marí stated.
