International Sport Kite Competition at Daishan Island, China Attracts Participants from Multiple Countries

On October 19, 2024, the International Sport Kite Competition in Daishan Island, China, opened at the Lulan Qingsha Scenic Area in Zhoushan City. Over 30 teams from countries including China, the United States, France, Italy, and Germany participated in the event.

The competition featured three main categories: traditional kite flying, sport kite flying, and modern kite performances, with a total of 11 sub-events. On the beach, uniquely shaped kites soared into the sky, including large kites shaped like an octopus, a pod of whales, and the character Sun Wukong. Participants launched their kites, which danced gracefully in the sea breeze.

This marks the 10th time Daishan County has hosted the international sport kite competition. After a six-year hiatus, American competitor Scott Anthony returned to Daishan for this kite festival. “Compared to 2018, more people are enjoying kite sports now, and I really love it here,” he said. During this kite competition, Scott Anthony delighted the audience with a kite performance show.
