NOLA_CODE, a nonprofit initiative dedicated to bringing computer science and coding education to underserved communities in New Orleans, successfully hosted its inaugural ‘Code Dat Benefit Party’ on October 10, 2024, at Urban South Brewery. The event raised funds to support its mission of empowering the next generation of tech innovators, especially for students who come from families living below the poverty line.
Event Highlights and Creative Concept
The ‘Code Dat Benefit Party’ was not just another fundraiser; it was a uniquely designed experience created in partnership with Pop-Up Marketing, a boutique marketing agency known for its creative and innovative campaigns. Pop-Up Marketing spearheaded the event’s branding and creative concept, bringing to life the fusion of New Orleans’ vibrant culture and the future of tech.
The name “Code Dat” is a nod to the city’s iconic “Who Dat” culture. The event featured live music from the talented Alexis & Sam from Sweet Crude, interactive coding demos, and fun activities, all while showcasing students projects where young coders demonstrated what they had learned and shared their passion for technology.
“Pop-Up Marketing’s vision was to create an event that celebrated both New Orleans’ cultural heritage and the transformative power of technology. We wanted to build something that felt distinctly local, yet spoke to the future of the students who will shape a thriving tech ecosystem in New Orleans,” said Gio Llontop, Founder of Pop-Up Marketing.
The funds raised through the Code Dat Benefit Party will go directly to supporting NOLA_CODE’s programs, which serve students from underrepresented and economically disadvantaged backgrounds. 85% of NOLA_CODE students come from families living below the poverty line, and many are African American or Latinx, communities that are vastly underrepresented in the tech industry. NOLA_CODE’s mission is to change that by providing these students with access to high-quality computer science education, coding resources, and hands-on learning experiences.
The nonprofit’s programs teach students coding languages, game development, and software engineering, setting them on a path toward higher-paying careers in technology. NOLA_CODE ensures that these students have the skills and opportunities to compete in the digital economy, breaking cycles of poverty and inequality in the process.
“We are incredibly grateful for the substantial support we’ve received,” said Charlie Barnes, Co-founder of NOLA_CODE. “It’s thanks to donations we receive, that we can continue providing essential education and resources to students who need it most. These kids are the future of technology, and together, we’re empowering them to reach their full potential.”
