T.M. Stevens
T.M. Stevens, the powerhouse bassist and electrifying vocalist, passed away on March 10, 2024, at the age of 72. Leaving behind an indelible legacy in the music world. Known for his energetic performances; and groundbreaking fusion of funk, rock, and heavy metal, Stevens’ influence stretched across genres. Over the course of his remarkable career, he toured with and recorded for some of the biggest names in the industry, including Tina Turner, Billy Joel, Joe Cocker, Steve Vai, Cyndi Lauper, 2Pac, and The Headhunters. A master collaborator; Stevens also recorded with fellow virtuoso Stanley Jordan, and the legendary James Brown. This tribute concert; will not only celebrate his life, but it also showcase the diverse range of music he created and championed, from his iconic “Funk n Heavy Mental” sound, to the profound musical impact he left on artists around the globe.
Stanley Jordan
Renowned guitar virtuoso; “Stanley Jordan” is known for his chameleonic, and bold musical persona. Stanley will bring his signature style, to this special tribute event. Jordan’s groundbreaking “touch technique” on the fretboard; revolutionized guitar playing, establishing him as a trailblazing innovator from the moment his debut album Magic Touch on “Blue Note Records” hit the airwaves. With four Grammy nominations under his belt, Jordan continues to captivate audiences worldwide. Praised by critics like Leonard Feather of the “Los Angeles Times”, who famously remarked, “Genius is a word often tossed around in musical circles, but it has been rightfully applied to Stanley Jordan,” his performance at the “Cutting Room”, promises to be a highlight of the evening, as he pays homage, to T.M. Living Colour
Another highlight of the evening; will be the performance by “Living Colour”. The groundbreaking rock band, hailing from New York City. Formed in 1984 and led by guitarist Vernon Reid; the band rose to prominence with their unique fusion of free jazz, funk, hard rock, and heavy metal, paired with lyrics that tackled both personal and political issues, including racism and Eurocentrism in America. Their debut album, Vivid (1988), which included the Grammy-winning hit “Cult of Personality,” catapulted them into the mainstream, reaching #6 on the Billboard 200, and earning double platinum certification. Over the years, Living Colour continued to push musical boundaries with releases like Time’s Up (1990) and Stain (1993), solidifying their place in rock history. Their return in the 2000s, along with their most recent album Shade (2017), shows a band still fiercely committed to creative exploration. At this tribute concert; Living Colour will bring their electrifying energy and socially conscious message, to honor the legacy of T.M. Stevens, whose genre-blurring artistry resonated deeply with the band’s own innovative spirit.
