Electric Racing Driver Ellis Spiezia Takes a Gamble on Nitrocross in Las Vegas

American racing driver Ellis Spiezia will make his debut on US soil in the epic season finale of Nitrocross in Las Vegas on March 1 and 2. At just 18 years old, Spiezia has been blazing a trail on the European scene since 2020, prioritizing electric motorsport and spearheading series from electric karts to cars. Named a Top 10 EV Influencer by EV Magazine and a BBC Green Sports Young Athlete of the Year Nominee, Spiezia is an ambassador and advocate for innovation in sustainable motorsport and altogether doing things differently. The decision to join the final round of the Nitrocross season in Las Vegas will be his debut on the American stage.

‘Drivers like Pastrana and Ken Block shaped my entire childhood, and gave me a passion for driving on the edge. I have pushed the limit for the past four years, constantly challenging myself in new disciplines, series and cars against competitors that are more experienced than me. So to step into Nitrocross will be a huge challenge but an honor to drive in a discipline shaped by my childhood inspirations’ says Spiezia.

While his eyes are set on the top Group E class, a fully electrified 1000hp purpose built race car, Spiezia will take his maiden step in the NEXT class, currently powered by P1’s 100% eco-fuel. Still a significant leap in performance and power from anything else Ellis, aka ‘the Renegade’ has been behind the wheel of, the NEXT car will offer 350hp over the custom built track featuring tarmac and dirt.

‘I was invited out to Glen Helen in December to check things out, and from the moment I stepped into the paddock, the energy was palpable. Nitrocross definitely knows how to put on a show while maintaining a high level of competition for the drivers. I said– count me in! But I didn’t think I’d get the opportunity this season, so to kick off 2024 with this race is insane.’

With only one full day of previous testing in a rallycross car (the QEV powered, fully electric RX2e), Spiezia has his work cut out for him. A stacked grid of 8 other experienced drivers will put him to the test over two days of racing at the NitroDome at Planet Hollywood.

‘I’m not even old enough to go to the casino’s yet in Vegas, so I’ll be gambling it all out on track. Four years ago I was at the indoor kart track in the shopping mall, and everything I’ve ever driven, I’ve tried to put it sideways. So maybe now it’s time I drove something that’s supposed to go sideways.’

Nitrocross will feature two final days of racing for the 2023/24 season, broadcast exclusively on Rumble, with content support across social channels with Ellis being featured in the pre-race press conference.
