Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport Unveils Transformative Terminal 5: A $404 Million Project to Elevate Connectivity, Accessibility, and Economic Growth

“Fort Lauderdale Airport Terminal 5”
Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) is set for a transformative Terminal 5 (T5) project, a $404 million, two-level domestic terminal. Encompassing 230,000 sq. ft., T5 integrates cutting-edge facilities, ADA-compliant features, and a seamless connection to existing structures. Beyond architectural innovation, the project anticipates creating 3,400 jobs during construction and 1,250 permanent positions, solidifying FLL’s position as a leading aviation hub.

Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) is one of the fastest-growing airports in the United States, serving millions of passengers every year. The airport is located in Broward County, Florida, and is a hub for several major airlines, including JetBlue, Southwest, and Spirit Airlines. Fort Lauderdale Airport offers non-stop flights to more than 100 destinations in the United States, Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean, and Europe.

The new Terminal 5 (T5) project is a multimillion-dollar facility that is designed as a two-level, five-gate domestic terminal with check-in/ticketing areas, arrival/departure baggage processing, a security screening checkpoint, and retail/food and beverage concessions. The estimated $404 million state-of-the-art facility will connect to the existing onsite Cypress parking garage and Terminal 4 through multi-level pedestrian bridges or walkways.

FLL Terminal 5 will have a total area of approximately 230,000ft² with a five-gate domestic terminal that covers an area of 180,000ft². It will be a two-storey structure with passenger facilities and hold rooms on the ground floor. The lower ramp level will be home to support areas, concessions storage, and airline operations functions. The terminal will have areas for check-in and tickets, arrival and departure baggage handling, a security checkpoint, and concessions for food and drinks. It will also incorporate Americans with Disabilities Act-compliant features and facilities similar to the other four terminals at the airport, to ensure accessibility for users in all areas.

The project is estimated to cost $404 million and has the potential to create approximately 3,400 indirect and direct employment opportunities during the construction phase. The terminal is expected to generate up to 1,250 permanent jobs at FLL Airport upon completion.

In summary, Fort Lauderdale Airport Terminal 5 is not just a facility upgrade; it’s a transformative endeavor set to elevate the airport’s standing and contribute significantly to the region’s economic growth and accessibility. As FLL continues its trajectory as a leading aviation hub, Terminal 5 marks a pivotal milestone in its journey towards excellence.
