The team at OodleLife has released the results of a recent poll that surveyed thousands of its readers to find the top low-shedding dogs.
Low-shedding dogs are ideal for first-time dog owners or anyone who is interested in a dog breed that comes with fewer grooming needs. Some dogs shed all year long, while others shed on a seasonal basis. Either way, heavy shed comes with higher responsibilities when it comes to household maintenance, dog hygiene and brushing, and grooming appointments.
OodleLife is committed to helping people everywhere learn about their dogs. OodleLife focuses on dogs of all breeds but emphasizes the area of grooming, helping its readers to enrich their dogs’ lives with necessary tips and guides for grooming. Founder Chris Allen is a dog grooming expert with experience in dog shampoo manufacturing who proudly delivers tips on specialized dog grooming products to his readers.
OodleLife’s recent poll targeted readers who are already dog owners in order to get the most accurate insider perspectives on low-shedding dogs. The results of the poll revealed that the top five low-shedding dog breeds are:
1. Cavapoo – A mix between a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and a Poodle, these dogs can weigh up to 30 pounds and make a lively addition to households.
2. Maltipoo – A cross between the Maltese and Poodle, these dogs are small, playful, and gentle.
3. Bichon-Frise – Weighing up to 20 pounds, these small dogs are adaptable and are good companions in households with other pets and children.
4. Labradoodle – A slightly larger dog, this Labrador Retreiver and Poodle mix can weigh up to 65 pounds. Labradoodles are friendly, social, intelligent companions.
5. Poodle, toy and mini – Toy poodles tend to weigh up to 5 pounds, while minis can weigh up to 15 pounds. These small pups have lots of energy and have a protective side.
All of these breeds have been found to shed less than other dog breeds, making any of the listed breeds to be an ideal choice for a first-time dog owner.
“We see new dog owners all the time who are overwhelmed with a high maintenance dog. Choosing the right dog for a first-time owner is all about finding a breed that fits your lifestyle and requires a manageable level of care. A good first dog is trainable, adaptable, and above all, a loving member of the family,” said Allen.
Interestingly enough, four out of five breeds on the list are either a Poodle or Poodle mix. Poodles are notable for their behavior and intelligence. The Bichon-Frise is known to be friendly and intelligent, as well. The readers who participated in the recent OodleLife poll seemed to indicate that Poodle mixes were overall an ideal choice for anyone who wanted a dog that wouldn’t shed as much as other breeds, but the Bichon-Frise is also a solid choice for the same reasons.
