Xi’an, a cradle of Chinese civilization and culture, served as the capital city for more than ten dynasties in Chinese history. It boasts for its numerous historic sites and the starting point of the ancient Silk Road.
As a State-listed Famous Historical and Cultural City, Xi’an has seen power, prosperity, wealth, and friendship of the Han and Tang Dynasties. Xi’an International University (XAIU) is one of these brilliant higher education institutions.
Where XAIU sits is named after the Great Wild Goose Pagoda, built by the well-known monk Xuan Zang in 652 A.D. The area is home to the cultural and technological industries of Xi’an city.
Infused with cultural heritage and modernity, XAIU has developed a unique approach to education. Firstly, it is committed to improving students’ cultural understanding and experience by offering courses such as Ancient Chinese Philosophy, Guqin (a traditional Chinese musical instrument), Board Game Go, Calligraphy and Chinese Painting. Students can see, feel, touch and act on a plethora of cultural artifacts either themselves or under the tutelage of cultural masters. XAIU’s achievement in the journey of experiencing Chinese culture has earned the title of National Chinese Traditional Culture Inheritance Base.
Secondly, it provides opportunities for students to do hands-on practices and innovative projects in companies, organizations and institutions. The University’s Drum Ensemble, Chime-Bell Ensemble, Guqin Ensemble and Drama Club are professional bodies which extend their influence not only in Xi’an, but also in China. The Drum Ensemble, for example, has given hundreds of public performances to the audiences in the United Kingdom, Australia, Germany, Austria, Japan, South Korea and countries along the Belt and Road.
