About The Author
Gwendolyn Morey Skeens – lifelong music educator, professional singer, and composer. She is a native of WV and graduated from Concord College, Marshall University, with post-graduate study in composition from Peabody Conservatory, Baltimore, MD. Her works are published by Hal Leonard Publishing and Sweet Pipes, Inc. Her musical adaptations, taken from Mark Twain’s “The Prince and the Pauper” and “Tom Sawyer,” were performed at Kennedy Center under the auspices of Opera for Youth. Other musicals for children include: “Phantom Tollbooth,” “Pippi Longstocking,” “Aladdin’s Lamp,” “Twelve Dancing Princesses” and two sacred musicals, “The Gentle Innkeeper” and “The Wedding Feast.” She was commissioned to compose the score for “Piece of Eden,” an epic play chronicling the history of Virginia from 1618 to 1776. In November of 2019, her adult musical, adapted from O. Henry’s “The Gift of the Magi,” was performed at The Historic Palace Theater in Cape Charles, VA. Gwen writes poetry and enjoys the music of the Renaissance. She is proficient on all recorders (ancient flutes) and was the former director of The Society for Early Music, Baltimore, MD. “Last Chance” is the first book she has authored and was inspired by the rural farming community where she now resides.
