Rotary Clubs in Mumbai kicked off their new year by organizing a blood donation camp on July 01, 2023 at Churchgate Station, to promote community health and well-being. The initiative aims to encourage voluntary blood donation, which plays a vital role in saving lives and supporting medical emergencies.
The project provided an opportunity for commuters of Mumbai to contribute to a noble cause and make a positive impact on society.
The Rotary Club of Mumbai Malabar Hill, known for its philanthropic activities, initiated this noble endeavor as part of their commitment to serving the community. Recognizing the importance of blood donation, they joined hands with other Rotary Clubs from South Zone of Rotary District 3141 to organize this significant event.
The blood donation camp followed strict safety protocols and guidelines to ensure the well-being of donors and volunteers is maintained. Trained medical professionals from Jagjivan Ram Hospital Blood Bank managed the on-site to facilitate the donation process and ensure a smooth and efficient operation. Our members from different Rotary clubs, Youth brigade from Rotaract District 3141 and the Students from the NSS unit of Jai Hind College were assisting with the Paper work and promotions at the Station.
From roaming the station all day with the signboards for donating blood, to constant announcements about the donation, volunteering helped in bringing over 400 interested donors to the collection booth. However only a total of 110 individuals were eligible for blood donation. This camp became an eye opener to the ones who could Donate due to medical or health reasons.
On the occasion, the District Governor Arun Bhargava overwhelmingly expressing, “Rotary Clubs across the Globe have always been at the forefront of community service, and this blood donation camp is yet another testament to their dedication towards making a positive impact.”
Lead Host Club President Rtn. Suresh Dongre said, “Multiple Clubs coming together and organizing this camp, helps to create better awareness about the constant need for blood donations and encourage more individuals to become regular donors.”
One of the Assistant Governor Rtn. Punit Vakil present during the camp highlighted, “Blood donation is a selfless act that can save lives and make a significant difference in the lives of those in need. The donated blood can be used for various medical treatments, including surgeries, emergencies, and ongoing medical conditions.”
The Rotary Clubs of Mumbai Downtown Sealand, Marine Drive Mumbai, Mumbai Cuffe Parade, Bombay Seaface, Bombay Bayview and Bombay Uptown, were thrilled to collaborate together at one of the busiest western railway stations in South Mumbai – Churchgate for this blood donation camp.
The Rotary Club members extended their gratitude to all the donors, volunteers, and medical professionals who worked together to create hope in the world. Their support and contributions undoubtedly made a significant impact on the lives of those in need.
