As per the Nepal Tourism Board, the number of tourists in Nepal has been increasing nowadays.
According to NRB Director, Maniraj Lamichhane, the increment of visitors from abroad is better in 2023 when compared to 2022. He believes that China’s allowance for its citizens to travel to overseas countries has been impacted positively in the tourism sector of Nepal. However, there are more Indian and American who are visiting Nepal than Chinese. Besides, citizens from Thailand are able to acquire the third position in visiting Nepal.
The number of overseas who visited Nepal from January to April 2023 is given below;
-
Jan 2023: 55,074
-
Feb 2023: 73,255
-
March 2023: 99,426
-
April 2023: 98,773
Apart from them, as per the press release on 9th March 2023, Nepal Tourism Board revised the provision that no one tourist can trek without hiring a trekking guide in order to ensure the safety and security of the visitors. This rule came into effect already on 31st March 2023. The TIMS card (Trekkers’ Information Management System) like a trekking permit is also implemented as a mandatory factor for trekking in every area of Nepal, though, it was not needed in the past.
Therefore, the trekking companies of Nepal are being optimistic about the tourist whose numbers will increase in the next season because of the revised provision of the Nepal Tourism Board and will cover all the losses they got during the coronavirus pandemic.
Everest Region
Though there are lots of visiting sites in Nepal, the Everest region is the most popular destination as it includes the world’s tallest mountain, Mt. Everest. Every year, numerous tourists visit this region for the purposes of climbing and trekking.
Comparing to Indians, many American have been engaging the trekking activity in Nepal in the autumn season of 2023, especially for the Everest base camp trek as the EBC trek is equally famous as the Mt. Everest climbing activity in Nepal.
On the other hand, Indians who live Overseas like Singapore, USA, Canada, UK, etc, but not from India have also equally taken part in the trekking sector of Nepal.
Trekkers come to the Everest region to witness the marvelous views of Mt. Everest, Mt. Lhotse, Mt. Ama Dablam, Mt. Cho Oyu, and other neighboring towering peaks. The trail offers the Sagarmatha National Park, Lukla Airport, Sherpa Highlands, and others.
Some of the trekkers prefer to trek to Mt. Everest base camp and fly back to Kathmandu by Helicopter in order to explore Mt. Everest from the land and the sky while others love to join the trekking activity only.
But, those who have limited time and want to explore the mountain region, are joining the Everest base camp Helicopter Tours this year.
Pilgrimage Sites in Nepal
Nepal is renowned for its pilgrimage sites as well not for Hindus only but for Buddhists too. The former includes Pashupatinath Temple, Patan Durbar Square, Chandragiri Temple, Manakamana, Muktinath, and so on. While the latter comprises Swayambunath Stupa, Bouddhanath Stupa, Lumbini (the birthplace of Lord Buddha), etc.
More Indians who come to Nepal directly from India, especially with their family visited the pilgrimage sites in Nepal from January to April 2023 in comparison to those who belong to India, but come from different countries.
They come to Nepal, especially for visiting the Pashupatinath Temple. The exact construction date of the temple is still unknown, but as per the recordings, it was seen from early 400 CE. Lord Shiva is the main Hindu god and he was the prime deity of Pashupatinath. Every Hindu devotee wants to visit the Pashupatinath once in a lifetime. The temple lies at the heart of Kathmandu Valley in Nepal so, the Kathmandu Day tour activity also includes this place for sightseeing. Only the people from India can visit the front site of Pashupatinath, but other nationalities are needed to visit from the backward. However, Pashupatinath is clearly visible from the Hill of its backside.
