MILC and The Film Verdict Celebrate Success of the First-Ever Alpha Film Festival in the Metaverse
The MILC platform provides a marketplace for media and entertainment, digital goods such as NFTs, as well as lifestyle services via e-commerce.

After months of preparation, MILC (Media Industry Licensing Content), founded by Hendrik Hey, and The Film Verdict successfully launched the Alpha Film Festival (AFF), the first-ever film festival to take place in the metaverse. The festival took place in the MILC metaverse, in their Art Tower, from March 3rd through the 7th. The groundbreaking festival surpassed all expectations and has set the trend for future Web3 events.

MILC was created to bridge the gap between content creators and their audiences. The platform was put together with the hope of building community while cultivating an engaging experience for users of all kinds. In that respect alone, The Alpha Film Festival was incredibly successful.

The well-received festival is another feather in the cap of MILC, as they continue to revolutionize the metaverse. Presenting the AFF with an eye on the potential for Web3, they have solidified their place as a major player in this emerging space.

“The AFF was born, and it will be the most relevant film festival on Web3. Who knows us, knows that we never start something without continuously expanding it with diligence and passion. It is one of our greatest strengths,” explained Hey.

The Alpha Film Festival aimed to prioritize the audience experience just as much as the creators of the films, aligning with the values of the MILC platform. To encourage community involvement, the festival featured a poster competition that generated enthusiasm and rewarded participants. The grand prize of the competition was a pool of MLT tokens, MILC’s metaverse crypto asset.

In addition to the tokens, 500 NFTs were minted, with 10 NFTs created for each of the 50 festival poster designs. Furthermore, all ticket holders were eligible to receive one limited edition NFT per purchased ticket.

What started as a learning experience for many quickly evolved into something much more exciting and engaging, as more and more people flocked to the festival. The numbers speak for themselves, with over 20,000 side requests, of which 19% were from the U.S., 25% from Germany, and 16% from the U.K. While around 200 tickets were sold, an impressive 9,000 streamed video assets were recorded and the Art Gallery received 296 entries.

Audience members were actively involved in the festival and played a crucial role in awarding the 2023 Audience Award to Baloji’s film, Zombies. The festival prioritized inclusivity and engagement, with additional public voting mechanisms for the official selection of the films and the festival poster design.

“The Alpha Film Festival was a great exhibit for an event with great quality. Together with industry partners and the audience, we want to make this brand big and relevant. It was also meant to be inclusive and a space for established festivals to expand into. The major advantage is that suddenly a lot more people can participate,” Hendrik proudly said.
