Philadelphia, Pennsylvania – February 10, 2023 – In 2021, the official poverty rate in the U.S. was 11.6%, or around 37.9 million people. Within this big picture, a staggering 8.6 million or 19.5% African Americans fell below the poverty line that year (U.S. Census Bureau).
In an earlier study, the 2019 U.S. Census Bureau Survey cited Philadelphia as the “poorest” of the largest U.S. cities, with 23.3 percent of residents living in poverty, surpassing the next largest poor U.S. city, Houston, by 2.9 percent.

Ryan Killebrew is on a mission to provide reliable and professional financial coaching and consulting services. She educates and assists individuals, entrepreneurs, small businesses, start-ups, and nonprofit organizations in financial literacy. Killebrew studied at Lancaster Bible College, earning an Associate of Science in Biblical Studies and currently finishing her Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration.
Before founding Killebrew Consulting LLC, Killebrew worked in the banking industry for seven years. Four of those years she spent as a service manager for one of the nation’s largest commercial banks. Killebrew has facilitated numerous financial literacy workshops at schools and universities across the City of Philadelphia as part of the bank’s community engagement initiatives.
