Bolt Design Awards creators said they built the program to serve a purpose beyond passing out worthless awards to pad a website footer. A portion of each contest entry fee goes back to the creative community through the grants.
The best-in-class winners in each category receive a visually stunning award designed by Graham Burns Studio of walnut, brass, and concrete. The 10-inch award is included at no extra cost, as the entry fee covers everything.
“Creativity takes a spark. Award-winning creativity takes a bolt of lightning,” program founders said. “We want to honor that Bolt of genius with an award that celebrates excellence and gives back to the creative community.”
The Bolt Grant
“Bolt Awards is about supporting you, the design community, and your clients,” the founders said. “We do this by giving 10 percent of every entry to help two critical categories of business.”
The Bolt Startup Grant is for businesses open for 24 months or less. Designers can enter websites their startup has designed — or their own websites — and the grant isn’t capped, so the more people who enter, the greater the grant award.
“We all know how difficult the first two years of business can be,” Bolt Grant representatives said. “Bolt is committed to seeing the next generation of design entrepreneurs succeed by investing back in them.”
The Bolt Grant for Nonprofits seeks to support charitable efforts and organizations as they work to help fill essential needs. Winners are encouraged to split or even gift the grant to the nonprofit.
“We want to reward the businesses that help amplify the mission and voice of nonprofits and their work,” Bolt Grant founders said. “When you enter the nonprofit category, you also enter to win the Bolt Grant for Nonprofits.”
