On September 28, the online launch ceremony of 2022 Russian Advanced Chinese Interpretation Professionals Training Course was held, sponsored by the Center for Language Education and Cooperation (CLEC), and organized by the University of International Business and Economics (UIBE) and the Association of Chinese Teaching in Russia.
The event was attended and addressed by Kirill Mikhailovich Barsky, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russian Federation; Cao Shihai, Minister Education Counsellor of the Chinese Embassy in the Russian Federation; Jing Wei, Deputy Director-General of CLEC; Hong Junjie, Vice President of UIBE; Zhou Liqun, the Chairman of the Union of Chinese Entrepreneurs in Russia; Taras Ivchenko, President of Association of Chinese Teaching in Russia; Zhou Chenmeng, Vice Dean of School of Chinese Language and Literature of University of UIBE. And some student representatives participated.
Jing Wei said that the CLEC cooperated with all sides to hold this practical training course, aiming at optimizing interpretation ability and promoting to building a quality interpretation professionals team. Through the close cooperation of Russian and Chinese experts, CLEC will grasp the essence of practice, precisely align with the market direction, and enhance the integration of the Russian and Chinese discourse systems. Furthermore, CLEC will further innovate the ideas and methods of training interpretation professionals and better reserve for the deepening development of China-Russia comprehensive strategic partnership. She hoped that all the students would make good use of the opportunity to meet and to grow up together with interpretation as a bridge, contributing to building a close, reciprocal, and better shared future.
Kirill Mikhailovich Barsky said that as a senior diplomat, he has witnessed the spread and development of Chinese language teaching in Russia in the context of deepening relations between the two countries. From his own experience, he pointed out the professional standards and professional accomplishment that an excellent advanced interpreter should be equipped with, and hoped that each student would be aware of the importance of being an interpreter in today’s complex international situation. They are supposed to practice solid basic skills while constantly improving his skills in practice, so that he would strive to become an important messenger in promoting relations between two countries.
Cao Shihai said that speeding up the elimination of language barriers that limit cooperation in various fields is an important task China and Russia face at present. He thanked CLEC for its strong support to the development of Chinese language education in Russia. The practical training course is not only one of the important initiatives to promote language exchange and cooperation between Russia and China, but also has important practical significance to better meet the high-level contacts between the two sides and achieve high-level cooperation in various fields.
Hong Junjie said that on the basis of the past experience of friendly cooperation with Russia, the University of International Business and Economics will give full play to the pooling power of high-quality teachers from the University and the Association of Chinese Teaching in Russia, and devote itself to advancing the development of excellent local Chinese interpreters in Russia, so as to enhance the quality and efficiency of serving the growing demand for interpreters in both countries.
Zhou Liqun said that he has been engaged in Sino-Russian trade and economic cooperation for more than 30 years, and he deeply understands the thirst of enterprises on both sides for high-quality interpreters. The launch of this practical training course comes at the right time. As a leading player in the “going out” of Chinese enterprises, the Union of Chinese Entrepreneurs in Russia is looking forward to cooperating with the CLEC, and ready to use the professional base as a carrier to produce the synergy effect of the Union’s professionals, capital and services, providing more Chinese language professionals to enterprises in both countries.
Taras Ivchenko (Chinese name Yi Fucheng) said that the program of practical training course has been warmly welcomed as soon as it was launched. And each participant is mostly the backbone and owns the lasting love for interpretation and higher life dreams, which have contributed to the smooth running of the practical training course. In the future, the Association of Chinese Teaching in Russia will continue to deepen cooperation with the CLEC and design more high-level Chinese language training programs to light up everyone’s professional life.
Speaking on behalf of the teams of Chinese and Russian teachers involved in the practical training, Zhou Chenmeng said that the teams of both sides have not only fully prepared for the existing programs, but will also work together in the future to develop the curriculum system of Chinese and Russian interpreting degree programs, the compiling of teaching materials, as well as the building of the database of Chinese and Russian interpretation professionals, and the career development plan map of Chinese and Russian interpretation professionals.
Besides, three participants from different industries and professional fields introduced their goals and future career plans for participating in this study from their own needs. They said they would treasure this valuable opportunity, learn by heart, polish their skills, and strive to become better versions of themselves.
The “2022 Russian Advanced Chinese Interpretation Professionals Training Course” is based on the actual work of interpreting for major events covering corporate employment and high-level government consultations, and innovatively adopts the model of “dual Chinese and Russian teachers” + “one-to-one teaching and evaluation”. It is equipped with simulated practice training, including consecutive interpretation and simultaneous interpretation, and strives to comprehensively improve the interpretation level of each participant.
