SAN DIEGO COUNTY, CA – August 23, 2022 – Industry-leading pediatric dentist and orthodontist Dr. Kami Hoss recently sat down to discuss how oral bacteria in the mouth can lead to a postmenopausal risk of developing high blood pressure. A new study from the University of Buffalo featured in the Journal of the American Heart Association demonstrates that older adults may be able to “enhance hypertension prevention through targeted oral care.”
Dr. Kami Hoss goes on to discuss the link between blood pressure and oral hygiene. “The presence or absence of certain bacteria in the oral microbiome can impact the reduction of inorganic nitrate to nitrite and nitric oxide. Nitric oxide is a very important molecule in the body. It’s involved in various processes, including expanding the blood vessels and increasing blood flow.” Additionally, without the proper dental care, individuals can experience a wide range of issues including chronic inflammation which is the result of gum disease.
As the founder and CEO of The Super Dentists, Dr. Hoss stresses the connection between oral and full body health. Individuals who practice proper oral hygiene can increase their lifespan from ten to fifteen years. Those who take care of their mouth can also reduce the risk of cancer, adverse pregnancy outcomes, respiratory disease, and diabetes.
According to Dr. Hoss it is never too late to change your habits and start improving your overall health.
Dr. Hoss also recently published a book titled, If Your Mouth Could Talk which is available for in-stores and online.
