August 16, 2022 – One of the primary reasons a child grows up to be an aggressive and violent adult is the abuse they suffer in their childhood at the hands of their parents. Eva Traff, a Swedish author, teacher, and student of psychology, also had a similar experience. She grew up in a family where one of her parents – her father – was stuck in a narcissistic personality, and ultimately took his own life. Ever since childhood, Eva saw her dad being focused on himself only. He never had time for his family. The only thing he was concerned about were his own needs. His indifferent attitude and abusive personality took a toll on Eva’s mental health. Over time, she developed eating disorders, low self-esteem, social insecurity, and so forth. When Eva grew up, she realized that this was NOT RIGHT. When she was nineteen, after a big quarrel with her dad, she left her home with some of her possessions and never moved back.
Eva’s father had inherited all these traits from his own abusive childhood. And Eva was determined not to be the same. She was committed to breaking this chain of abuse. Her passion for learning and becoming a teacher helped her choose the field of psychology. And from there, she learned a lot about various mental health issues and personality disorders. Her knowledge helped her discover that her father had a narcissistic personality.
It takes immense courage to talk about the dark side of your life, especially when it is related to one of your parents. However, Eva is not afraid to do so. She believes in sharing the knowledge to save hundreds or even thousands of lives. She believes in speaking up and not staying quiet. For this reason, Eva Traff has recently launched two mind-expanding books: Safe Harbour: Building Self-Esteem with Parenting, Love and Understanding and Narcissism & Psychopathy: A Book About Those Who Never Find True Happiness – and Their Children.
“When mum and I lowered dad’s urn, I asked for forgiveness from him for writing this book. But if one brave person close to him as a child had read a book like this one, he might be alive today. He might even have been a loving and present father and grandfather,” writes Eva.
