StoneFly Green 1000W Low Carbon Petabyte Archive System in Honor of Earth Day
StoneFly unveils GPA 4.0 – 1000W low carbon, low power petabyte scale archive system with automated air-gap and immutability for surveillance video, log, media, patient record, criminal records, and financial data archiving.

StoneFly, Inc. the original innovator of the ISCSI protocol (http://www.iscsi.com) and manufacturer of affordable, secure, highly available, and scalable storage, hyperconverged, air-gapped and immutable backup and DR, and cloud solutions has entered the data archiving market with Green Petabyte Archive (GPA) 4.0 – 1000 Watts low carbon, low power petabyte-scale archiving system with automated air-gap and immutability.

The GPA 4.0 infrastructure is made up of two components: 1U/2U master controller and 8, 12, 16, 24, or 36-bay air-gapped nodes. The master controller is network-facing and accessible to the production network, applications, databases, and workloads. While the air-gapped nodes can only be accessed via the master controller. The 4U rackmounts can be populated to store 1.5 PBs per node and the system supports virtually unlimited number of air-gapped nodes.

As opposed to tape arrays and traditional archive systems that are managed manually, the GPA 4.0 come with built-in network and power management controller. The controller allows administrators to set policies to automatically isolate and power-off the air-gap nodes when idle. Since data archives aren’t accessed frequently, the air-gap nodes are powered-off most of the time consuming less power and generating less heat. As a result, the GPA 4.0 requires less air-conditioning and maintenance.

In addition to the reduced Operational Expenses (OpEx), the GPA 4.0 is the first-ever archive solution that comes with built-in ransomware protection features. The air-gapped nodes protect the system from the vulnerabilities of the production network, applications, and databases. While immutability, coupled with policy-based automation, prevents malicious actors, such as ransomware, from editing, overwriting, or deleting the archived data.

The “4.0” is a standard for archive systems introduced by StoneFly which stands for data security, low power, low maintenance, low heat, and zero ransomware incidents.

“Conventional archive systems are a drain on a company’s IT resources. They consume power, require constant maintenance, and need air-conditioning because of the heat they generate – not to mention, in an era of ransomware, they’re not built for data protection – only long-term data retention, which isn’t cheap in the long run” said Mo Tahmasebi, the founder and CEO of StoneFly, Inc. “Fueled by the feedback of our customers, we have built a turnkey archive solution that solves these issues and allows organizations to custom-build their archive system at scale with better data security, efficient power consumption, and low maintenance”.
