March 31, 2022 – New York – BlockPack is pleased to announce the launch of its non-fungible token (NFT) platform beginning with its 2021-22 College Sports NIL Program. The College Sports NIL Program is a transformative solution that will deliver meaningful name, image, and likeness (NIL) income to student-athletes through the issuance of NFTs that enable new forms of engagement with the global college sports fan community. BlockPack’s program enables teams of eligible NCAA student-athletes, not just individual players, to participate, monetize and engage with their community.
Fans and supporters will be able to buy, sell and collect a limited number of exclusive NFT collectibles for each student-athlete participant. Under the team and community-focused program, the vast majority of the proceeds from primary sales and secondary royalties will be paid to the Student-Athletes for licensing their name, image, and likeness. NFT owners will also be able to participate in our private Discord channels and receive access to exclusive rewards, incentives, and VIP events.
BlockPack uses a community price discovery process that enables NIL collectives, boosters, individual supporters, casual fans, collectors, and crypto-buyers to all participate in a fair and transparent system where the final price of the NFT collection is based on aggregate community support rather than the interest of a small group of supporters.
More information about the program and how to participate is available at www.blockpack.io.
“College sports represents the dominant form of real-world community engagement in the United States and we are excited to apply the disruptive community engagement technology of NFTs to benefit student-athletes and their supporters,” stated Richard Oh, CEO and Founder of BlockPack. “We are still in the early days of defining real-world applications for NFTs and we are thrilled to provide a solution that enables forward-thinking college sports teams to generate meaningful income for so many committed student-athletes under the NCAA’s new NIL policy adopted last year.”
“I am incredibly excited to be part of a cutting-edge program that is on the brink of changing the playing field for college sports,” declared Quinten Johnson, a junior defensive back at the University of Michigan, a program participant. “With the NCAA changing the NIL rules last summer, we have seen opportunities for a few people to partake but have not seen the same opportunities for the team as a whole until now. I believe this program embodies the concept of what it means to be a part of a football team as well as have the ability to engage in NIL together.”
“It’s a new world that we live in today’s NIL laws and it provides an opportunity to support ourselves,,” remarked Kraig Correll, a senior offensive lineman at the University of Michigan. “This program will help strengthen our connection with our incredible community and fanbase. I am looking forward to seeing what the future holds for this program.”
