Kate’s House Foundation® is awarded an exclusive grant to help provide safe and affordable recovery housing,

Seattle, WA – Kate’s House Foundation® is thrilled to announce that it has been awarded a Washington state grant from a new program to create and expand new recovery residences for people with substance use disorder. The Seattle-based foundation, founded in 2015, owns and operates several single-family homes for shared recovery housing in the Seattle metro area. Kate’s House Foundation is known for providing safe and affordable shared housing for persons with substance use disorder. They will receive $75,000 for operating expenses over each of two years. This is a brand-new grant initiative with a competitive award to expand housing opportunities. Kate’s House Foundation is honored to be the first grantee in King County, WA.

Frank Candelario and Sherri Candelario, Ph.D. created the Kate’s House program with the purpose of providing compassionate support to people in recovery. Their unique concept provides high-end housing in great neighborhoods that allow people to regain their lives. Because Frank and Sherri own the homes, they used their vision for compassionate housing where people live in community, receive appropriate program support, and rebuild their lives.

Kate’s House partners with multiple agencies including King County Drug Court, programs from the Department of Corrections and veterans’ associations. These agencies provide funding for beds for recommended residents. Kate’s House provides opportunities for treatment, education, employment, counseling, and peer support. People often live in the Kate’s House homes for up to two years which provides a launching pad to permanent housing.

The Candelarios’ first-hand experience helping a relative with recovery housing led to a vision that people who owned real estate can change communities. The Candelarios created a unique success roadmap that led to the establishment of several homes in Washington and other states. Frank Candelario states that “the private sector can make a large impact on helping vulnerable people with housing.”

The Candelarios are founding members of the Washington Affiliate of Quality Recovery Residences (WAQQR.org), which adheres to the National Alliance of Recovery Residences’ accreditation standards. Kate’s House Foundation homes were the first Level II Medically Assisted Treatment MAT recovery homes to be accredited by the state. The organization permits the use of prescribed medication for mental health support and substance abuse treatment and prevention.

The awarding of the competitive funding will enable Kate’s House Foundation to continue its critical mission. These monies will be used for a variety of objectives, including paying for the operating costs of new recovery residence beds while expanding their mission to help the most vulnerable people in need of treatment. The Candelarios’ success rate in helping people graduate drug court, successfully complete probation, and regain custody of children has caught the attention of civic leaders.

Frank and Sherri have taught their successful method of buying single-family homes for recovery residences since 2017. The housing program they created has been copied by many investors across the country.
