On 25th December 2024, in the heart of the UAE’s Dubai, the Liwa Desert became a hotspot for automotive innovation. The China-Arab Motoring Media Summit, hosted by Great Wall Motor (GWM), was in full swing. Numerous renowned motoring journalists and experts gathered, eager to explore GWM’s latest in off-roading in Middle East since its first debut in Huke Road China.
The summit kicked off with an introduction to GWM’s revolutionary off-road grading system. The chief engineer said, “The GWM off-roading rating criteria is not repeating the competitor’s Trail, but a deep dive into how intelligence and technology are reshaping off-roading. And it is to help to guide users to understand the risk levels of different off-road scenarios and choose the right tools. We learned about the tiered experiences, from beginner-friendly to expert-level terrains. It was clear that GWM aims to make off-roading accessible to all.”
Next up was the showcase of the TANK 500 Hi4 Z edition, equipped with GWM’s latest Hi4-Z hybrid platform. As it roared across the Moreeb desert’s undulating dunes, the onsite audiences witnessed its 715kW astonishing power and intelligence in action. The vehicle’s terrain recognition and real-time adjustments were put to the test, and it passed with flying colors.
Then came the discussions on the key pillars of “New Off-Roading”. Smart Technology Integration was a hot topic. Features like AI-enhanced driving systems had everyone buzzing. The Off-Road Grading System was also dissected, with its clear categorization of four dimensions: geometric passability, power transmission, driving validation, safety and reliability, and structural configuration. With 20 performance test standards and 70 meticulous indicators, the company apportions weights to these 70 indicators based on their impact on off-road performance. And the Arab motoring journalist added that the concept of Emotional Fulfillment for modern global users, turning vehicles into adventure companions, was truly inspiring.
Back in October, at the TANK Autumn Technology Conference in China’s Huke Road, GWM had made waves with the release of the Hi4-Z. At that event, the details of this game-changing architecture were laid bare. The focus on long-range capabilities, with a pure electric range of over 200km, was a highlight. The unique 3-speed DHT and continuously variable transmission integration was explained, showing how it boosts energy efficiency.
During the summit, there were also test drives and demonstrations. Journalists got behind the wheel of GWM vehicles, experiencing firsthand the synergy between the cars and the desert’s challenges. The off-road grading system proved its worth, simplifying the complex terrains and making the drives more enjoyable.
As the day wound down, conversations about the future of off-roading filled the air. GWM’s commitment to user needs and innovation was evident. The summit was not just about cars; it was about a shared adventure and a new era of off-roading. With GWM leading the way, the future of global off-roading looks bright and full of possibilities.
