Thai Film Industry Exceeds Expectations at the American Film Market in Las Vegas, Securing Deals Over 1.7 billion Baht (US$52M)

The Department of International Trade Promotion (DITP), Ministry of Commerce, successfully led twelve Thai companies to the American Film Market 2024 (AFM 2024), the largest film and content market in the United States, held from November 5-10, 2024, in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Ms. Sunanta Kangvalkulkij, the Director-General of DITP, reported that despite the relocation of the event from Los Angeles to Las Vegas this year, Thai film, content, and related services continued to enjoy strong demand, engaging 102 international companies from 23 countries/markets in 312 business matching sessions, resulting in trade negotiations valued at over 1.785 billion Baht (US$52m). American, Chinese, Canadian, Indian, South Korean, and Vietnamese companies showed the highest interest, particularly in the horror and action genres.

Notable trade negotiations for Thai content included the movie ‘Ghost Board’, which was presented for the first time at AFM and immediately secured a distribution deal for the Philippines. Similarly, ‘Tee Yod 2’ quickly concluded a deal for distribution in North America. Both films were represented by M Distribution Co., Ltd.

Additionally, Benetone Films Co., Ltd. negotiated with a U.S. company planning to film in Thailand, and Locman2011 Co., Ltd., achieved successful negotiations for an American film project expected to start production in Thailand by January 2025, and a Canadian company planning to shoot early in the year.

Looking ahead, DITP plans to bring fourteen Thai companies to the Asia TV Forum & Market 2024 (ATF 2024), from December 4-6, 2024, in Singapore. This event is a central hub for buying, selling, financing, distributing, and producing films, TV shows, and series in Southeast Asia and includes several parallel activities with the Soft Power Subcommittee on Film, driving the government’s policy to boost the film industry as a means to enhance the country’s competitiveness.

AFM 2024 featured over 286 production and distribution companies and attracted producers, creators, and investors from more than 87 countries worldwide.

The success of Thai companies at AFM 2024 is a testament to the DITP’s ongoing commitment to promoting Thai film industry in major international markets, including the Marché du Film at the Cannes Film Festival, the Hong Kong International Film & TV Market (FILMART), and the Asian Contents & Film Market (ACFM).
