Sunova Solar Strengthens Its Roots in China While Expanding into the US Market with a new name Thornova Solar

In recent years, Chinese photovoltaic company Wuxi Yuncheng Electric Power Technology Co., Ltd. Sunova Solar (from now on referred to as “Yuncheng Sunova Solar”) has deepened its layout in the Chinese market, continuously improved its technological innovation strength, optimized its enterprise management level, and worked together with upstream and downstream partners to promote high-quality and healthy development of the industry, contributing more to achieving the “3060” dual carbon goal and promoting the green transformation of the Chinese market.

Sunova Solar is a Chinese company that owns the American brand Thornova Solar. They belong to China’s Wuxi Yuncheng Electric Power Technology Co., Ltd.

The company has a strong foundation in China, and as the US subsidiary of Sunova Solar, Thornova Solar is actively seeking new opportunities in the US market.

Last month, Sunova Solar launched its solar module manufacturing business in Indonesia, mainly targeting the US market. This production line’s annual rated production capacity is 2.5GW, capable of producing PERC cells and n-type modules. This measure demonstrates Sunova Solar’s new layout in the US solar market and showcases its market competitiveness as a Chinese company.

Continuously enhance competitiveness and focus on deepening the Chinese market.

Technological innovation is the core driving force of enterprises. In recent years, Yuncheng Sunova Solar has focused on researching and manufacturing photovoltaic modules. It has established its presence in the Chinese market through continuous product iteration. Against the backdrop of clean energy transformation, Yuncheng Photovoltaic continues to enhance its competitiveness and focuses on deepening its presence in the Chinese market.

On September 27, 2021, the 6th Shandong Solar Energy Market Summit and the 2021 “Dual Carbon Target” Innovation Driven Summit Forum were held in Jinan, Shandong. The relevant person in charge of Sunova Solar from Yuncheng spoke at the meeting, discussing the prospects of the distributed photovoltaic market under the background of promoting the whole county and proposing solutions based on the impact of the “dual control” policy, which has gained attention and recognition from the industry. At the same time, in recognition of Yuncheng Sunova Solar’s recent contributions to the development of Shandong’s new energy market, the Shandong Solar Energy Association awarded it the honorary title of “Zero Carbon Pioneer.”

The Science and Technology Department of Jiangsu Province recently announced the list of companies to be included in the 2024 provincial science and technology enterprise listing cultivation plan. A total of 72 companies in the province were selected, including 18 in Wuxi, accounting for a quarter of the total number in the province. Sunova Solar has become one of the key high-tech enterprises to be cultivated in Wuxi.

The construction of the module factory has been completed, and a deep layout has been laid out to expand the Chinese market.

As early as 2021, Yuncheng Sunova Solar’s solar module manufacturing factory in Huishan District, Wuxi, was completed. This is an essential layout of Yuncheng Photovoltaic in the Chinese market. The factory is equipped with international advanced production equipment such as Otwei, Xiaoniu, and Shengcheng and is committed to providing high-quality photovoltaic modules for Chinese customers and consumers.

In terms of products, although large-sized silicon wafers that reduce costs and increase efficiency are the trend, it is well known that the size competition between 182mm and 210mm silicon wafers has continued since 2019. The rising 210 camps challenged the industry giants in charge of silicon wafer discourse as disruptors. Afterward, both sides engaged in multilateral games through large-scale expansion, public opinion warfare, and technology research and development strategies. To this day, they continue to smoke and display their respective abilities.

Therefore, Yuncheng Sunova Solar plans a strategic layout, upgrades, and transforms its factory production line, which is compatible with 182mm and 210mm of large silicon wafers. In the face of changing situations and fierce competition, it plays a combination punch and strives to capture high-power module products to break through the Chinese market.

Yuncheng Sunova Solar’s layout in the Chinese market has continued to accelerate in the past two years. In March 2024, the 9GW cell factory built by Yuncheng Sunova Solar in Yibin, Sichuan, has been officially completed. In addition, the “5GW HJT Advanced Production Line and Energy Storage Project” was signed with the Huishan Economic Development Zone government in Wuxi, Jiangsu, in December 2023. The project has an investment of about 2.05 billion yuan and is expected to be put into operation in 2026 and reach production in 2028.

Keeping up with China’s domestic policy trends and exploring new opportunities for developing the Chinese market.

In 2024, there will be frequent favorable policies, and the photovoltaic industry will usher in new development opportunities. The Opinions on Accelerating the Comprehensive Green Transformation of Economic and Social Development “is the first systematic deployment to accelerate the comprehensive green transformation of economic and social development; The Action Plan for Accelerating the Construction of a New Power System (2024-2027) focuses on key areas of new power system construction and enhances the grid’s ability to accept, allocate, and regulate clean energy.

With the increasing macro-control efforts of national policies and the gradual clearance of photovoltaic production capacity, Yuncheng Photovoltaic has taken several innovative measures to optimize management processes and improve organizational efficiency. On the other hand, Yuncheng Sunova Solar has a keen insight into market trends, has actively expanded into new power system businesses, and is exploring more possibilities in the Chinese market.

In the future, Yuncheng Sunova Solar will continue to deepen its layout in the domestic photovoltaic market, grasp market trends, and increase research and development efforts based on optimizing its own manufacturing processes and service models, contributing to China’s early realization of “carbon neutrality and carbon peak.”
