Xi’an-Tian Youran, a 24-year-old student from Belgium, is studying Chinese culture courses at Xi’an International University in Xi’an, China. Since studying at Xi’an International University, Tian Youran’s spoken Chinese has become very fluent, and he has made many friends and visited numerous tourist cities in China. Known as the “Capital of carbohydrates,” Xi’an is a paradise for Tian Youran when it comes to food.
He particularly enjoys exploring local eateries to taste specialty dishes. “My favorite food is mutton paomo, and I also love eating noodles. I feel like I am a local Xi’an person! In the past year, I have checked in at more than 100 restaurants, and I have gained 10 kilograms compared to when I first arrived.”
Tian Youran is also very fond of traditional Chinese culture. He can play the drum and the instrument, and he loves visiting museums.
Xi’an International University is a base for the inheritance of excellent traditional Chinese culture, offering a rich array of activities such as instrument playing, Go, calligraphy, poetry, Chinese painting, and martial arts, all of which are of great interest to Tian Youran. At the Chinese Bridge Storytelling Competition finals, Tian Youran won the “Outstanding Literary Talent Award.” He said that this is a form of encouragement, and he plans to find a job related to Chinese in the future.
