ORLANDO, Fla – October 31, 2024 – 10-year-old Jocelyn James has won a gold medal at the 2024 Charleston Cup in South Carolina, with an all-around score of a 37.950. Jocelyn, fondly known as “Joccy” (pronounced Joss–ee), won a personal gold medal for her spirited floor exercise, and brought home silver medals for uneven bars, balance beam, and vault.

Jocelyn had recently turned 10 before the competition. James was the only Level 7 gymnast who qualified for the Charleston Cup Finals in all four events, out of 122 gymnast-entrants. Jocelyn has placed herself in a position to be a top gymnast competing in any event. She is a true all-around gymnast.
The gymnastic community has taken note of Jocelyn’s inaugural year in optional gymnastics given her progress from her standing as a Level 4 Compulsory Gymnast in 2023. Jocelyn lives and trains in Orlando, Florida. Her coach is Jeff Wood from Orlando Metro Gymnastics.
The most incredible thing is that Jocelyn has competed for only two years. She has the drive, natural talent, and a huge love for the sport of women’s gymnastics. She could very well be one of the best gymnasts in the country for her age.
“I have coached several very successful elite gymnasts, and I could see right away that quality in Jocelyn – the best is yet to come, but it’s coming,” said coach and owner of Orlando Metro Gymnastics, Jeff Wood.
The Charleston Cup took place at the North Charleston Convention Center in South Carolina. The invitational meet has been taking place annually for the last 36 years. All sessions are judged by NAWGJ Brevet, National and Level 10 rated officials.
