Peter Nobel recently concluded his visit to Silicon Valley, where he engaged in discussions about innovation and sustainable development. As the chairman of Nobel Sustainability Trust (NST) and initiator of Nobel DAO, Mr. Nobel visited the University of California, Berkeley and Stanford University on October 7th and 8th. His visit focused on how technology and sustainability can work together, and how collaboration across different sectors can bring about real change. This visit also served as a lead-up to the NST San Francisco Summit and the First Annual Nobel DAO Conference, scheduled for November 20-21 at UC Berkeley.
During his time at UC Berkeley, Mr. Nobel held an extended meeting with Chancellor Richard Lyons, gaining detailed insights into NST’s contributions while highly commending the work of Nobel DAO’s global leading talent club. Chancellor Lyons expressed willingness for broader cooperation with NST and the Nobel DAO talent club. Mr. Nobel also met with key academic leaders, including Vice Chancellor for Research Kathy Yelick, Dean of Engineering Tsu-Jae King Liu, Dean of the College of Natural Resources David Ackerly, and Berkeley RDI Co-Director Dawn Song. These discussions focused on advancing sustainability through applied research and enhancing the role of Nobel DAO in supporting talented individuals. Mr. Nobel also delivered two lectures, highlighting the significance of technology to students and faculty, which generated interest in Nobel DAO’s mission.
Erik Finman, CEO of Nobel DAO, also gave a speech alongside Mr. Nobel. Together, Peter Nobel and Erik Finman announced the $50,000 cash award for student innovators at the eWEAR Health Prize competition, held at Stanford University on November 8th, 2024. Many attendees expressed their interest by signing up to join the initiative and participate in upcoming projects.
At Stanford University, Mr. Nobel had the opportunity to engage in a dialogue with Nobel Laureate in Economics, Myron Scholes, as well as 300+ students and faculty members. The visit included an address by Arunava Majumdar, Dean of Stanford’s Doerr School of Sustainability, which emphasized the event’s focus on sustainable development. Mr. Nobel also met with other scholars, including scientist Yi Cui, to discuss potential collaborations that could enhance the platform Nobel DAO is building for innovation.
He discussed how Nobel DAO’s platform connects talented individuals from various fields and provides them with the resources they need to succeed. This incubator not only offers access to exclusive events and a prestigious global network but also significant funding opportunities, empowering individuals and teams to make meaningful contributions to technological innovation in the U.S. and globally. Mr. Nobel stated, “Silicon Valley is the center of innovation, and Berkeley and Stanford are nurturing the next generation of leaders. This visit has laid the groundwork for the upcoming November summit, where we hope to explore how new technologies can accelerate both innovation and sustainability.”
The interactions during this visit highlighted Nobel DAO’s focus on collaboration between academia, industry, and technology. The interest shown by students and faculty at both institutions demonstrates the momentum behind Nobel DAO’s goal to drive positive change by making innovation accessible.
