Tell us about Dare To Own You.
I’ve “re-created” myself more times than I can count! From starting out as a music teacher, then working as a successful retail sales clerk, to an Emmy award-winning journalist, to entrepreneur, keynote speaker, expert communications coach, podcast host, and the creator of an online learning platform—and now, a published author with a best-selling book!
If I can do it, anyone can—and Dare To Own You will show them how.
In the book, I dive into the risks I’ve taken, the obstacles I’ve overcome, and the valuable lessons I’ve learned along the way. It’s part memoir, part practical guide—packed with transformational tools you can actually use. I share stories from my childhood and every stage of my career, showing how each step, no matter how unexpected, contributed to my growth through determination, resilience, faith, and trust.
At the end of each chapter, you’ll find reflection exercises and thought-provoking questions to help you reflect on your own journey. Whether you’re looking for personal growth or professional success, this book is a guide to help you own who you are and step into your next chapter with confidence, courage, and authenticity to live your best life!
What inspired you to write Dare To Own You?
As my grandmother used to say, “No knowledge is ever wasted,” and those words were the driving force behind my book.
Every experience we’ve had—whether good or bad—adds to our skills and knowledge. It’s all valuable and can help us shape our next chapter if we’re willing to look at it differently, connect the dots, and find the themes and patterns in our lives.
By sharing strategies and tools in the book, I hope to help readers uncover the themes in their own lives. My goal is to show you that you know more than you think you know, to trust in that wisdom, and to fully embrace your authentic self. From there, you can move forward with confidence and create a more joyful, fulfilling next chapter of your life.
How did your background and experience influence your writing?
I’ve always been a risk-taker—or, as I like to call it, a calculated, intelligent risk-taker. I left teaching without a plan, jumped into television with virtually no experience, but I believe because of my perseverance and determination, I became an Emmy award-winning journalist after 28 years in the industry. Then, in my 50s, I took another leap and started my own business!
While writing this book, I drew on everything, all the knowledge I’d learned from my four distinct career chapters. By connecting the dots, I realized there were common themes—storytelling and using my voice—that guided each new step.
I also knew I had skills I had honed over the years, along with gifts and talents I’d been blessed with, and I wanted to use all of it to help others who feel “stuck.” Through this book, my mission is to guide people from where they are now, to where they want to go, to who they want to be. Whether professionally or personally, it’s about helping them own who they are, transform their lives, and live their best life!
What is one message you would like readers to remember?
Do not let fear stand in the way of owning who you are, give yourself permission to be your most authentic self.
Do not allow limiting beliefs to hold you back from creating your next chapter, either personally or professionally.
If you are willing to learn and grow from your experiences and have courage to own more of who you are, you are well on your way to turning your dreams into reality, and creating a next chapter filled with passion, purpose and success.
