This book describes Dr. Schiffer’s 30+ years of scientific research into his Dual-Brain approach to treatment of anxiety, depression, addiction, and PTSD, in highly readable language. Interspersed with the science are clinical case studies of his successful treatments of patients, like Philip, with debilitating anxiety, Richard, treated first for opioid and later gambling addictions, Susan, with anxiety and depression, and a veteran with PTSD.
His dual-brain psychology uses techniques as simple as covering one eye and most of the other with an ordinary envelope to access the troubled side of the brain. He then has the patient switch sides with the envelope so they can tap into the more mature personality in their other brain hemisphere.
The book also describes his more recently developed dual-brain psychology treatment method, using near-infrared light, that is currently in Phase II trials with funding from the NIH and the HEAL Program. It has received a “Breakthrough Designation” from the FDA. His company, MindLight, LLC, is working to bring this equipment and technique to market.
