PEORIA, AZ – The Central Arizona Flute Ensemble (CAFE) invites the community to embark on a unique musical journey with their upcoming performance, CAFE Odyssey: A Musical Adventure. This special event, showcasing the versatility and brilliance of the flute family, will take place at the Peoria Center for Performing Arts on Saturday, October 5, at 7 PM and Sunday, October 6, at 2 PM. Thanks to the generous support of an Arts and Culture Grant from the City of Peoria, these concerts are free to the public, making them accessible to all music lovers and the arts.

The ensemble, comprising seven talented musicians, will perform diverse musical styles, ensuring that there is something for every taste. The concert promises to entertain audiences of all ages, from classical masterpieces to Disney tunes, pop hits, patriotic anthems, oldies, and Broadway show tunes. CAFE’s performance will feature instruments from the entire flute family, including the tiny yet powerful piccolo and the extremely rare, impressive 10-foot-long contrabass flute. The variety of sounds and textures will take listeners on a captivating auditory adventure.

In a break from the traditional concert experience, CAFE aims to provide an interactive and educational event. Throughout the performance, the musicians will introduce each piece, sharing fascinating anecdotes about the composers, the works’ history, and the various instruments’ unique qualities. Audience members will have the rare opportunity to listen to the flutes and experience them up close, as the musicians will pass around flutes and piccolos for demonstration.

“We mindfully disregard the classical concert tradition of keeping the audience at a distance,” says CAFE Manager Leslie Etzel. “Instead, we actively engage with our listeners. For example, rather than a printed program, we take turns standing up to introduce our music with interesting tidbits and a bit of humor. People see our faces, hear our voices, and connect with us, especially during the Q&A segment.” This interactive format encourages a deeper connection between the musicians and the audience, creating a memorable experience beyond simply listening to music.

Since its founding in 2014, CAFE has made its mark on the Phoenix metro area’s cultural scene, performing at a wide range of venues, including the Desert Botanical Garden, Tempe History Museum, Mesa Art Center, Arizona Broadway Theatre, and numerous libraries, art galleries, and senior communities. Their previous performance at the Peoria Center for Performing Arts was a resounding success, and they are excited to return for this second appearance.

Recent concert attendees have raved about the ensemble’s captivating performances. “You are one of the most enjoyable, talented group of musicians I have ever had the pleasure of hearing,” one listener remarked. Another audience member shared, “I came here thinking, ‘I’ll listen to a few flutes.’ Little did I know how interesting and amazing this performance would be. I’ll never forget that 10-foot-long contrabass flute!” These testimonials show the ensemble’s ability to surprise and delight audiences with engaging performances and wide-ranging repertoire.

The Peoria Center for Performing Arts, located at 10580 N. 83rd Drive, Peoria, AZ 85345, will host these concerts. The venue offers open seating on a first-come, first-served basis, and doors will open 30 minutes before each performance. Audience members are encouraged to arrive early to secure their preferred seats. The performances will be approximately 90 minutes long, with a brief intermission.
