Richard Whitt Unveils New Book “Reweaving the Web” – A Call to Reclaim the Internet for Humanity

Washington, D.C. – October 3rd, 2024 – Richard Whitt, former Google policy attorney and current thought leader in digital governance, has released his new book, Reweaving the Web. This timely work delves into the profound ways the Internet and World Wide Web have reshaped our lives, highlighting both the promise and peril of these transformative technologies.

In Reweaving the Web, Whitt examines how the Web, designed to be a beacon of empowerment, has become increasingly dominated by powerful corporations that prioritize profit over people. The book provides a critical analysis of how the original ideals of the Internet have been overshadowed by practices that compromise our autonomy and privacy. However, Whitt offers hope by showcasing alternative approaches and solutions that can help restore the Web to its intended purpose: serving the many, not the few.

“Technology has the power to uplift or to constrain, and right now, too many of our digital tools are being used to limit our freedoms rather than expand them,” said Whitt. “This book is a wake-up call and a roadmap for how we can reclaim the Internet to better serve humanity.”

Reweaving the Web is not just a critique; it is also a call to action. Whitt introduces the concept of “GliaNet”, a visionary new framework for a more decentralized and equitable Web. He argues that by rethinking how we approach digital technologies, we can create systems that enhance trust, accountability, and human agency.

Whitt’s insights come at a crucial moment as society faces unprecedented challenges, from the fallout of a global pandemic to the growing digital divide. He asserts that the time has come to reexamine the fundamental structures of our online world and to take decisive steps toward a more inclusive and just digital future.

The book is available now to order on Amazon. For more information on Reweaving the Web and Richard Whitt’s ongoing work, visit www.glia.net. Follow him on Twitter @richardswhitt and on LinkedIn @richardwhitt & @glia-foundation.
