Leesburg, VA – September 23, 2024 – A Riverside High School senior, Aariv Gupta, is making a significant impact in his local community through an initiative aimed at reducing food waste and addressing hunger. Gupta, who has been an active volunteer at the Anna Sudha Community Kitchen for over a year, also dedicates his time to helping manage the local farmers market. It was at this intersection of his volunteer work that he saw an opportunity to make a change.
Recognizing that unsold produce at the market was often discarded despite being perfectly fresh, Gupta spearheaded a program to channel this surplus to the community kitchen. Since launching the initiative, Gupta has successfully collected and donated over 150 pounds of fruits and vegetables, which have gone on to nourish individuals in need.
