Under the guidance and support of the Administration for Digital Industries, the Yilan County Government has actively promoted 5G applications integrated with local cultural characteristics. As part of this effort, Yilan is showcasing its “Yilan 5G CultTech” project at the prestigious 60th Venice Art Biennale, marking Yilan as the first independent city from Taiwan to participate in this renowned event. The exhibition aligns with this year’s theme by exploring “Local Culture and Women’s Perspectives,” reinterpreting these ideas through the fusion of diverse art forms and innovative technologies. It highlights Yilan’s natural beauty and rich cultural history, offering international audiences a glimpse of how 5G technology can revolutionize artistic expression and transform local industries.

The theme of Yilan’s exhibition at the Biennale is “Of Mountains & Sea: The Digital Lightscape of Yilan.” This exhibition presents digital artifacts featuring national treasures from the National Palace Museum, interactive AR installations showcasing natural landscapes from the Lanyang Museum, and digital works by Taiwan’s emerging artists, including real-time artist Che-yu Wu, digital artists Lien-chang Wang and Po-hung Lian, and fashion designer Claudia Wang. Together, they highlight Yilan’s cultural richness and the innovative power of technology. The cross-disciplinary works on display merge art, culture, and cutting-edge technologies, redefining audience participation by blurring the lines between the physical and virtual worlds. Rather than passively observing, visitors are invited to actively engage and become integral to the creative process. Through the use of 5G technology, Yilan introduces a new artistic experience, presenting its unique cultural identity and charm to a global audience.

Beyond its international presence, the Yilan County Government is also establishing the Chung Hsing Cultural and Creative Park as a central hub for 5G technology applications. The park recently launched the permanent “Paper Museum” exhibition, offering a smart park experience with AR and MR interactive technologies. Visitors can immerse themselves in the tactile and cultural aspects of paper through projection mapping, 5G-enabled remote games, and AR historical tours. These activities allow guests to explore the century-long history of the Chung Hsing Paper Factory and the broader paper industry in an engaging and interactive way.
