After reading many of Wang Xijing’s paintings, and recently seeing the opera characters he created, I came to the conclusion that Wang Xijing is a generalist in the painting field. He can draw meticulous painting, freehand painting; simple and heavy paintings, light and elegant paintings, large ink, realistic painting. He can draw large, rich, and precise subject paintings of ancient figures. He sometimes painted quickly, without thinking. Suddenly the mind, slightly no stagnation. Draw figure painting, do not sketch, do not draft, take the pen to draw, quite need some talent.
Of course, generalists need more talent, many people lifelong draw a painting, a style, are not good, and he many styles are good? But a truly talented person should be able to study good painting methods. Su Dongpo said, “Things are all things. Through its meaning is not suitable and not good.”
