Black & Scholared is leading a collegiate apparel revolution aimed at fostering black excellence and championing higher education within the Black community. Every year, fewer Black students (22.6% as of 2023) enroll in higher learning institutions compared to the country’s national average of 32.9%. This calls for immediate action. Kamirria Wallace, a Howard University alumni and founder of Black & Scholared, commented, “Education is our way out of the glaring wealth gap in the Black community. It is therefore time to flip these statistics. Now, more than ever, we need to empower more Black students to pursue their dream of higher education and help them finance this dream.”

The collegiate apparel industry has played a crucial role in celebrating and encouraging higher education within the Black community. As an HBCU graduate, Kamirria took the challenge of creating a stylish brand that would link collegiate apparel with a focus on transforming the HBCU community. From its relentless commitment to purpose-driven, mission-focused collegiate apparel to its HBCU pride, Black & Scholared has firmly cemented itself as a game-changer in the collegiate apparel industry. The fashion-forward apparel brand continues to leverage its growing influence and reputation to empower Black students and alumni to proudly represent their favorite HBCU school. 

Kamirria explained that establishing Black & Scholared in 2020 was informed by a passion to build a HBCU legacy for her daughters. However, since its launch, the brand has become a beacon in the HBCU community. Aside from offering officially licensed HBCU collegiate apparel ranging from t-shirts to sweatshirts, hoodies, hats, totes, and more, the brand also allocates 15% of its profits to the HBCU community through merchandise sales, scholarship programs, and deep partnerships with community organizations.

As the brand continues to grow, Kamirria has her sights set on securing more HBCU licenses to further the brand’s reach. “With a little over three years behind us, we’ve already reached more than 500 thousand scholars and contributed over $30,000 to the HBCU community. We are proud of our ongoing efforts in our long-term commitment to celebrating black excellence and championing academic achievement.”
