National Grief Awareness Day was established in 2014. The Institute of Professional Grief Coaching’s inaugural Grief Awareness Day in Washington, D.C. is a day dedicated to acknowledging, understanding, and supporting those who are navigating the journey of loss and grief.
Grief Awareness Day is a special time for people to come together and recognize the many sides of grief. It is a day to honor those who have gone away and find comfort with others who understand.
The belief is that while grief is a deeply personal experience, it does not have to be faced alone. This event aims to show that the journey through grief can lead to healing and growth.
Dora Carpenter has welcomed everyone to attend Grief Awareness Day in Washington, D.C. Whether someone is grieving, supporting someone who is, or simply wanting to learn more about grief, they are invited to join the event.
White attire is the theme of the event because white symbolizes purity, peace, and new beginnings. By dressing in white, participants collectively embrace the theme ‘Grief Doesn’t Have to Be Dark.’ It serves as a visual reminder that even amid loss, there are possibilities for light, hope, and a brighter tomorrow.
“Our inaugural Grief Awareness Day in Washington, D.C. is more than just an event,” Dora Carpenter added. “It’s a community of support and understanding. By coming together, we can illuminate the path of grief and help each other find light amidst the darkness. We hope to see you there, dressed in white, ready to share, listen, learn, and heal.”
