New YA fantasy novel "Extraordinary Ordinary Life" by Riddhi Katore is released, an exciting story of magic, self-discovery, and a painful love triangle that tests the limits of trust

“Extraordinary Ordinary Life” by Riddhi Katore has been released worldwide. This 343-page young adult fantasy novel follows Rose, who leaves her home in India to study Unforbidden Magic at MaryClaire University and finds herself entering a whole new world of relationships, pressure, and connecting her family’s heritage to the magic of the past.

Set in a world where people possess supernatural powers drawn from ancient magical creatures, the story focuses on both the interpersonal dynamics among Rose’s friends and the long history of power and hierarchy that drives their society. Learning about her family’s origins and trying to discover her powers, Rose also falls into a love triangle with two attractive men, Dan and Yoshi. The men, best friends with opposite personalities, each entice Rose in their own way, but the unfolding drama forces the strong female protagonist to question their loyalties.

With chapters that move among the first-person perspective of different characters, readers see the motivations and points of view of each, including their inner thoughts, doubts, and concerns about one another. While the story is rooted in relationships and identity, Katore also presents a deep lore that stretches back to the time of the dinosaurs.

The narrative combines elements of sci-fi and fantasy in a unique take on extinction, with the asteroids that killed the dinosaurs having carried aliens that were interpreted by humans as magical creatures like dragons, phoenixes, and mermaids. In the present, people known as Descendants carry traits of these extraterrestrial visitors, which manifest in unique eye colors and special abilities.

Weaving an intriguing tale that moves between the large, global phenomenon of magic and the small, intimate moments of Rose’s life, the author explores themes of trust, family, love, and the challenges of finding a place in the world. This fascinating story is perfect for teen readers, and sets the stage for future novels from an ambitious young writer.

Extraordinary Ordinary Life (ISBN: 9781961532243) can be purchased through retailers worldwide, including Barnes and Noble and Amazon. The paperback retails for $21.99, and the ebook retails for $5.99. Review copies and interviews are available upon request.
