Larry Terhaar Launches "Once a Detective..." The Author’s Second Novel Focuses on His Favorite Genre - Private Detective Murder Mystery/Thrillers
“Once a Detective…” introduces Dan Burnett, an NYPD detective who opts for retirement after failing his physical. At fifty-five, he becomes a private investigator, learning the ropes from a P.I. with a similar history. Divorced and living on a sailboat, his one source of happiness is his college-aged daughter.

Danbury, CT – July 29, 2024 – To the delight of his many fans, Larry Terhaar has released his latest novel. Once a Detective… will not disappoint, as readers become enthralled in the story from the first page, making it difficult to put down.

After assisting his new partner with ongoing cases, Dan Burnett lands one of his own: a beautiful woman whose brother was murdered. With the NYPD abandoning the case, it’s up to him to find the murderer, all while grappling with his attraction to the client.

The suspects? Las Vegas casinos, where the brother owed a million dollars, and his second wife, who inherited millions upon his death. Dan doggedly works the case, drawing on his lifelong skills, with the help of a former colleague initially assigned to the case. Tracking a mob hitman leads him on a chase across the country, searching for the truth and ultimately finding it.

This detective murder mystery is perfect for fans of Michael Connelly, Robert Crais, David Baldacci, Stuart Woods, and James Patterson.

Reader Testimonials always tell the story. This is what JCK had to say, “5.0 out of 5 stars. Another nail-biting suspense novel by Larry Terhaar, who has hit a home run again with his second book, “Once a Detective.” Like his first book, “Oceanside,” he had me “all in” from start to finish, which didn’t take too long. It was an easy, quick read that took me home to my youth in Westchester County, NY, and Fairfield County, Connecticut. I could almost taste the New Haven-style pizza as I read this extremely compelling book! I hope there is another book on the way, and soon!! A must-read!”

DH made these comments, “5.0 out of 5 stars. Once a detective…grabs your attention and pulls you into the main character, Dan, a retired cop who becomes a private investigator. Fast, easy read with a twist at the end. I hope to read a lot more stories of his life and P.I. jobs as a series.”

About the Author:

Larry Terhaar is a native of Westport, CT, where he met Beth, his high school sweetheart. They were married in 1973 and just celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. After a variety of work experiences in his twenties, he found his true passion as a home builder. His career path took a turn towards real estate development, culminating in the construction of condominiums by 2005.

He and Beth raised two sons in Fairfield County, CT. Both are now married, and they have two wonderful grandsons.

By 2000, he became fascinated with ocean sailing and sailed the western Atlantic and Caribbean seas multiple times, living aboard for much of that time, from Maine to Grenada and every place in between.

After retiring from the building/development business in 2016, he now spends summers in CT and winters on the beach in FL. Since retiring, he tried his hand at writing and storytelling, a long-held passion dating back to his childhood. His first novel, OCEANSIDE, inspired by the collapse of the Champlain Towers in Surfside, FL, was published in early 2024. He’s now written this Private Detective novel, which is the genre he enjoys reading most. The title is ONCE A DETECTIVE… published by Atmosphere Press.

Larry is now working on his third novel, the second in the detective series, AGAINST THE BLUE WALL, which he hopes to publish later this year.
