Lori Rotter’s Freckles’ Best Ribbit follows the story of an adorable little frog named Freckles. The tryouts for the yearly Spring Chorus will be held tonight, and everyone is ready to give of their best. But Freckles the Frog isn’t one of them. He feels his ribbit is not right. When he tries to ribbit, a sneeze comes out. On Georgie’s advice, he blows his nose and tries again. This time, hiccups come out. His friend Cece tells him to lick a lemon to get rid of the hiccups, only now, Freckles emits squeaks. Doc Mookie takes over and tells Freckles to sip water slowly. Soon, Freckles starts making a unique sound, a croak, the likes of which no one had heard before. Now, he is ready for this year’s Spring Chorus.

Freckles’ Best Ribbit is a wholesome tale with a gentle message about self-love while celebrating the distinctive qualities that make each of us unique. Accepting one’s own quirks makes an individual confident and empowered to pursue their dreams, beautifully shown in this story about a young frog. Using catchy rhymes and a bunch of cute animals as the main characters, Lori Rotter spins a funny and delightful yarn for children. There are lots of humorous moments in the story. Young readers will find it easy to relate to Freckles. His antics are funny as well as heartwarming. I loved how Freckles’ friends came together to help him in his time of need. The colorful illustrations by Vaughan Duck are another enthralling addition to the book. In conclusion, if you’re looking for a fun-filled picture book for kids, you won’t go wrong with this one!”
