Sherry’s Charm Bridges Two Concerts, Mesmerizing Thousands

Ten-year-old Hong Kong violinist Sherry Tse performed with Italian conductor Massimo Belli and the Hungarian State Symphony Orchestra of Szolnok on June 27 and 28, at the Szolnok Aba-Novák Agora Cultural Center and the Concert Hall of the Ferenc Liszt Music Academy in Budapest, respectively. Her performance perfectly presented the essence of Sarasate’s Carmen Fantasy.

In the 19th century, Spanish violinist and composer Pablo de Sarasati enriched his repertoire with several fantasies based on successful operas of the time. Carmen Fantasy undoubtedly occupies the most prestigious position among his adaptations. For this work, written in 1881, Sarasati consciously chose operatic details that best reflect the Spanish atmosphere of the work. In addition to the versions for violin and piano, he also wrote variations for orchestra, both of which later won the recognition of the public and critics. Due to the complex techniques used in the performance process and the strong passion inspired by opera, it is considered one of the most challenging violin works.

At such a young age, Sherry already has rich experience and had performed in famous concert halls in many cities around the world, including: Schönbrunn Palace Theater in Vienna, Rudolfinum in Prague, Mozarteum in Salzburg, Szolnok Aba-Novák Agora Cultural Center, Concert Hall of the Ferenc Liszt Music Academy in Budapest, Saigon Opera House in Ho Chi Minh City and Hong Kong Cultural Center. Even though this is a very difficult virtuosic piece, Sherry performed brilliantly and passionately, winning the audience’s enthusiastic praise and rhythmic applause that lasted for several minutes!
