The Swedish scholar Stephen, who came to Guangdong for research, remarked, “The Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area is very modern, stylish, and beautiful.” He journeyed along the eastern coast of the Pearl River Delta, visiting Guangzhou, Dongguan, and Shenzhen, in search of the fertile ground for reform and development experience, and to gain insight into the rich and enduring Lingnan culture.

Dai Yonghong(Dean of the School of Eoreign Languages at Shenzhen University.):How do you think of this BRI for the past 10 years?

Stephen Brawer (Chairman of the Belt and Road Institute in Sweden):Well, as I have reiterated also in a speech I made earlier in Beijing, I think this is of historic significance for mankind. The impression of what has always struck me since I’ve looked deeply into this question of the Belt and Road was the idea of a community for a shared future for mankind. I don’t think the West grasps that as the basis for what the Belt and Road Initiative really is. They are generally in Europe unaware, partly because they wish to be unaware, but in addition, they are just not getting the proper accurate information. This was the basis upon which we founded the Belt and Road Institute in Sweden, because of the absolute failure on the part of mainstream media to accurately present for the Swedish public, but even for the European public, what really has China achieved and what are the intentions of the Belt and Road Initiative. So we took that challenge and we continue to work both here, I hope, more in cooperation, even maybe with Shenzhen University, as well as Guangzhou Institute for Foreign Studies. We’re committed to the idea of exchanges which will help to enlighten people in Sweden and in Europe in general.

Dai Yonghong:I really appreciate for your comments on these BRI achievements for the past 10 years and also the joint efforts by your institute.

Stephen Brawer:We know that this initiative was a Chinese proposal, but actually it has gradually become an international consensus and also it has become an international action. Because so far, more than 152 countries and international organizations have chosen to sign these agreements of BRI together with Chinese government and this time. So, we know that the BRI was a Chinese proposal, but it doesn’t belong to China alone. It belongs to the world, because the Chinese president said that we proposed this initiative. We based on this, try to base this Silk Road spirit, the principle of Silk Road spirit, which President Xi Jinping summarized as follows, that is, openness, peace and cooperation, openness and inclusiveness, and mutual learning and mutual benefits.
