Dr. Padmini Murthy was recently selected as the Top Global Health Leader of the Decade for 2024 by the International Association of Top Professionals (IAOTP) for her outstanding leadership, dedication and commitment to promoting good health and well being globally.
While inclusion with the International Association of Top Professionals is an honor, only one consultant is selected for this distinction each year. Dr. Padmini Murthy is being recognized for this honor for having more than three decades of international professional experience in Medicine and Public Health. IAOTP is incredibly honored to be able to recognize Dr. Murthy for her success and dedication. Dr. Padmini Murthy will be celebrated for her selection as Top Global Health Leader of the Decade 2024 at IAOTP’s Annual Awards Gala, being held at the magnificent Opryland Hotel this December.
Dr. Padmini Murthy has certainly proven herself to be talented and highly skilled in various countries. She is a dynamic, results-driven leader who has demonstrated success and advancement throughout her entire career. Dr Murthy specializes in Global Health, Women’s Health, Maternal Healthcare, Human Rights, Promoting the Practice of Safe Motherhood, Activism to Improve the Health of Women in Underserved Communities, Social Determinants of Health, Public Health, Distance Education, Social Media, HIV/AIDS, and Global Health Diplomacy. Dr. Murthy has collaborated with UN ambassadors and missions for two decades on projects focusing on women’s health in Malawi, India, Suriname, Grenada, Liberia, and Nepal. Murthy has worked with partners from the private and public health sector on various health projects during COVID, and additionally is working on promoting Menstrual Equity and addressing Climate Change effects on women with First Ladies of Suriname and Common Health of Bahamas
Dr. Murthy received her MD and additionally a Master’s in Public Health and a Master’s in Management both from New York University (NYU).
Dr. Murthy serves as the NGO Representative of the American Medical Women’s International Association at the United Nations. She has experience working as a consultant for the United Nations. Dr. Murthy has been a member of the Executive Committee of the NGO CSW Committee of NY at the United Nations and The Global NGO Executive Committee. She is past chair of the International Health Section of the American Public Health Association (APHA), She also chaired the advisory council for APHA’s Publication Nations Health. Currently she serves as the chair of the inter sectional council steering committee of American Public Health Association
Dr. Murthy serves as Global Health Lead for the American Medical Women’s Association Murthy was named a member of the Official United States Delegation to the 66 United Nations Commission on the Status of Women in March 2022.
Dr. Murthy is the NGO Representative of the American Medical Women’s International Association at the United Nations. She has experience consulting for the United Nations. Dr. Murthy has been a member of the Executive Committee of the NGO CSW Committee of NY at the United Nations and The Global NGO Executive Committee. Since November 2020
In June 2022, Murthy was invited to the National Security Seminar at Army War College, PA as a civilian expert.
Throughout her illustrious career, Dr. Murthy has received awards, accolades and has been recognized worldwide for her expertise in healthcare. In 2022, she was awarded Top Global Health Advocate of the Year. She will be honored for her distinction as Top Global Health Advocate of the Decade for 2024 at IAOTP’s Annual Awards Gala, being held at the magnificent Opryland Hotel in Nashville this December.
Dr. Murthy has received several national and international awards, including being the first Indian-born American in 75 years to be honored with the Elizabeth Blackwell Medal for her efforts in advancing women’s health worldwide by the American Medical Women’s Association.
Dr. Murthy was named Women of the Year for 2012-2013 by The National Association of Professional Women USA. At the Triennial Medical Women’s Congress in Seoul, South Korea, in August 2013, Murthy received the Jhirad Oration Award, presented once every three years to an exceptional female physician. She is the first American female physician to receive this honor at an international meeting of the Medical Women’s International Association, which has female physician members in 50 countries. Dr. Murthy received the Millennium Milestone Maker Award at the 9th Annual Women’s Symposium at Sias University, China, in June 2015. She has received the Sojourner Truth Pin for her outstanding community service
Murthy, a faculty member at New York Medical College, has been recognized by her students for her exceptional teaching and as a source of inspiration for their pursuits in global health careers. Her academic achievements include being on the Dean’s list at NYU Steinhart School of Education and being named Public Service Scholar at the Robert F Wagner Graduate School at New York University.
In 2023 Murthy was recognized by the FIAA and Consulate General of India NY as an honoree for International Women’s Day.
Dr. Murthy has hosted and co scripted a radio show sponsored by AV Radio on the Millennium Development Goals since March 2012, to 2015 reaching a global audience. She has published extensively, written and co-edited two text books, along with publishing a children’s book and a book of poetry. Dr. Murthy has been featured on UN Web TV, an Indian News Channel, interviewed by Sky news in print by CNN and yahoo on women’s health issues.
Dr. Murthy is known for her exceptional organizational skills and frequently presents at workshops and seminars worldwide, offering valuable insights into women’s health and works to address public challenges

Looking back, Dr. Murthy attributes her success to her passion for medicine, her understanding of public health and her ability to create change on a global level. When not working, Her hobbies include reading, cooking, doing yoga and she enjoys travelling with her daughter, she has visited six continents and looks forward to visiting the seven. For the future, Dr. Padmini Murthy will continue her life’s mission to educate and serve through her role as a Global Health Advocate.
