The Voluntary Carbon Market Initiative
The Voluntary Carbon Market Initiative – VCMI is recognized by the global carbon market as the largest reference for high-quality carbon credits in the world.
VCMI is an independent non-profit organization housed in Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisors. VCMI was announced by COP26 President-Designate Alok Sharma on 31 March 2021, and has received co-funding from the Children’s Investment Fund Foundation, Ballmer Group, the Bezos Earth Fund, Google LLC, the Packard Foundation and the UK Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS).
The head of the Future Energy Transition division, Rafael Borgheresi, explains: “The project’s energy transition credits are based on Beyond Carbon, a new generation of integrity and impact-based carbon credits, inspired by the rules of The Integrity Council for the Voluntary Carbon Market (ICVCM) and VCMI, and the UN Social Development Goals model.”
